My wife and I showed up just before closing time, with no appointment and an unspecified issued with the electrical system on our 2016 VW SportWagen. Stan Mattis, the assistant manager, was very thorough and thoughtful and figured out the best way to take care of our car issue. Oh I love these guys. Little pricey but they have dealt honestly with me over the past 5 years. And when they fix something, its fixed. I have never had to return my vehicals after a repair. They even offered a courtnesy shuttle. Super friendly and they never get mad when I ask lots of questions. They always treat me with respect.

I have been taking my 2010 Mazda3 to Hillmuth in Columbia for the last several years, mostly for routine oil changes and maintenance. But if an issue arises, I know my car is in good hands. Scott, Stan, and the whole team are great. They explain everything thoroughly and treat their customers with fairness and honesty. I was referred to this "Local. Trusted. Experienced." shop by a local, trusted, experienced customer of theirs. Whom at this point appears they won't be doing business with them any longer based on my experience. First and foremost I got a bad vibe from the first time I walked in the shop. I didn't feel welcomed at all. At the time even after I greeted him with a "Good afternoon, how are you?" Damien(the service advisor on duty) just starred at me until I stated my reason for entering their business. Luckily (I believe his name was)Steve greeted me when I was speaking to the service advisor. Despite that awkward experience I still returned the next day to drop off my vehicle. I had requested several services, one in particular was the repair of my A/C system. I was properly advised of Hillmuth's procedures for testing & repairing A/C systems. I agreed to allow them to perform the service. I was told that no leaks were found, however made aware that there could still be a leak that wasn't detected. Stan then told me my vehicle was ready for pickup and I should bring it back in a week to have the A/C checked again. I picked up my vehicle later that day, A/C fully charged, running great. I returned it on Monday to have it evaluated again per their request. I was then informed by Stan that the A/C condenser had a crack in it the was causing a leak of the freon. I was given a quote of $1,528.82 to replace the A/C condenser & recharge the A/C system again(keep in mind I'd just paid $330 for that same service less than a week ago). Though the $330 to recharge the system was "partially waived" to just $52.61. I was expected to pay $475.00 for the A/C condenser & $890.06 for the labor to replace the A/C condenser. Not feeling confident that I was been given "Trusted" service by this Local, Experienced shop. I called another local, trusted, experienced shop to get a quote. From that Local. Trusted. Experienced. shop I was able to get my A/C condenser replaced, A/C system evacuated and recharged(though the technicians at Hillmuth didn't replace the freon I paid for after I declined their service, so there wasn't any freon to evacuate) for $559.42 less than what Hillmuth quoted. I was charged $285.99 for the part and $479.97 for the labor. I'm totally aware that parts & labor vary from shop to shop. However these two shops are approximately 1.6 miles apart and they both hang their reputation on trusted and experienced. However just one of those shops fully lived up to their reputation and it wasn't Hillmuth of Columbia. Services: Oil change, Auto A/C recharge, Air conditioning

Hillmuth has been in business for a long time around my area. It has always been a reputable place with experienced mechanics working for them. The staff is friendly, efficient and communicate with you clearly before doing any work beyond the initial inspection. Damien at the service desk understood that even though I have multiple issues with my vehicle, I had only wanted to make it safe to drive until I have the time to get to the rest of the issues. I did not get any pressure to do any additional work, but Don my technician did identify an issue that I was not aware of and provided advice on how to deal with it.
