First time and everything was amazing. The reno’s are fantastic. Super comfy and easy to hear and hold a conversation! Food was excellent. Had the salmon and hands down best I’ve ever had. Nice job Jake!

The service in this place is absolutely horrendous. The food was delicious but our waitress and the staff did not care about our service at all. We sat for 3 hours, our food was served wrong and at awful timing, and all of our bills were wrong. We ended up having to go up to the bar to get our own drinks because it took to long with our waitress. We never received an apology for anything that went wrong but only got arguments about our bills being wrong and side comments about us wanting our food. Right when we were served our food we were asked about the checks and dessert. We felt extremely rushed and not cared about. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all unless if you have 5 hours to waste.

Our group of 11, which included three kids, visited over the 4th of july weekend. Overall, not a very good experience. The good part- Drinks were good, old fashions were muddled. Great atmosphere and on the water. The bad part- Two of us got the evening special- swordfish. It came out cold. Waitress took it back to get heated up and it came back marginally warmer at best. Inexcusable for a $30 plate of food. We had five shrimp dinners which everyone liked. But for $28 it doesn't even include a salad or soup! Under the old owners, it was $23 and included the soup/salad. One person got the chicken cordon bleu for $23 and was very rubbery. Word will spread fast of this and after reading recent reviews, we aren't the only ones who have had a negative experience. Hopefully things will get turned around, otherwise I dont see this place lasting very long.

Awesome building with great atmosphere and lake views under new owners. Bartender and wait staff were great. The food, however, was pretentious, overpriced and not as wonderful as we had been led to believe by the staff descriptions. There were fewer options available than we expected. We were there midweek and it was less than half full. We asked to be seated at a table as there were plenty available but were made to spend 20 minutes at the bar before being seated. The cocktails were tasty and well made, it was nice to see a muddled old fashioned. Overall, I'd probably go back for cocktails in the great atmosphere but go somewhere else for dinner afterwards.

This restaurant has potential although it needs to work a few bugs out. Had a 7 o’clock reservation and was asked to wait in the bar, after 15 or 20 minutes the hostess came to see us and wanted to seat us right in the noisy traffic area of the bar. We requested a table in the restaurant and to be moved from the bar area. They were accommodating. The drinks weee tasty but skimpy on the alcohol. We ordered the tomahawk steak special. We asked for the 2 pound and after the meat was presented to us we found out it was 2 1/2 pounds because they were out of the smaller portion but we were not told that before they were going to prepare it. Also, not allowed to have the double baked potato with the meal as a side , it was an up charge of $12. At $175 for the meal any side should be available. Also, everything was oversalted. The meat, the sides, even the twice baked potato were salty. Other than that, the food was very good and we would give it a second try.

he new and incredibly improved Bootleggers opened back up Summer of 2022. The ambiance is spectacular inside and out. The bar is beautiful. A cross between a Ralph Lauren bar and a speakeasy. The food was outstanding. Had the salmon and the bone in ribeye. Shrimp and French onion soup weee excellent also. Will be back! Nice to finally have some 5 star dining up in the woods.

If I could give this place a zero I would. Had a group of 6 with reservations. We we're 45 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. Ordered our food, fish fry and halibut special. Over an hour later our food showed up. Halibut was way overcooked and fish fry was a soggy mess. Told waitress about it and she abandoned our table. Got the manager and was told he would take halibut & 1 fish fry off. At this point we just wanted to get out of this nightmare. Bill came and was only discounted $11 instead of $45, had to track down manager as NO one wanted to help us at this point and his comment was that we had consumed part of our meal. He finally credited our amount he promised and we left. Such a beautiful setting that you could never pay me to step back there ever again. I'm 62 years old and this was hands down the worst experience and service I have ever received! NEVER GO TO BOOTLEGGERS!

First time and a great experience. Didn't like having to stand at the bar and wait for bartender to finish helping everyone at bar before we were seated but everything else was great. Our waitress Melissa was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. My wife and I were really craving a quality steak and were disappointed. My son really wanted the tuna sadly they were out so he went with mac and cheese which came with a nice chocolate chip cookie brownie dessert. Waitress suggest old fashion and they were good. Wife ended with creme brulee and I had the cheesecake. Both were great. Great meal with nice staff. Was checked on enough but give space to enjoy meal. If you haven't been the entrance is on the left side towards the water.

What a fun evening at Bootleggers. Beautiful views of Lake Nokomis from the spacious bar and new deck. Our bartenders were friendly and accommodating - delicious Grasshopper, thank you. Dinner was equally delicious, we tried the Lobster Bisque, House Salad, The Mouthpiece (broiled walleye) and The Dillinger (Atlantic Salmon, smothered with crab meat and hollindaise sauce and asparagus spears...all awesome. Our server was energetic, her Northwoods hospitality was genuine and fun. Glad we got to enjoy the historic ambiance before Bunny sales off into retirement. Enjoy, we certainly did.

Wow! What history, what fantastic food, what atmosphere! Travelers told us to go here and that it was pricey but excellent. I found that the prices were not bad at all either. I love the artwork on the walls and found out from the owner that they were portraits painted by someone who stayed there back in the day of his wife and her sisters. So enjoyed this place their new porch should be opening this weekend and will have to go back. I had so much walleye left that it made three fish tacos when I got home! They ran out of the special steak on a Saturday night, were initially disappointed but found something else just as good.
