Was in Florence at a softball tournament, wanted some catfish, found Newborn's listed. Went about 1 on a Saturday. Not many people in the restaurant but when 5 of us entered the staff just stood in the back. There were no signs stating to seat yourself or wait to be seated. After a good 5 minutes a young lady told us to sit anywhere. We were finally able to order, had a nice young man wait on us. I ordered a 2 piece catfish, others ordered a 3 piece, catfish sandwich and chicken tenders. I was quite disappointed in the catfish, cut too thin then overcooked. Not sure how this restaurant says it's the home of the famous catfish dinner. I really wasn't impressed. Also the cole slaw was not good at all.

First of all, let me say I enjoy the food, but every time we get food from here something is missing. Often times it's the sour cream and butter for the baked potato. It's getting ridiculous. How do you miss something like that?

Glad to see this restaurant is still around and still just as good as I remember. I grew up coming here with my grandparents (Luther and Lillie Muns) pretty much every Sunday after church. My aunt, uncle, and cousins as well. The memories created here are priceless. I will always visit here when coming back home. A hometown restaurant that you can't get anywhere else.

I've been going to this restaurant since I was a child. I'm 53 now and it is still delicious! I also had the same waitress! So glad Mike and I went here to eat while visiting my hometown. Go here! You won't regret it!

The sign says it all...HOME OF FAMOUS CATFISH!! Locally operated and very well established in the community. The dining experience is a simple one with good, fresh mostly fried foods. The service is always good and the fish is crispy and delicious! They only serve filet fish now (no longer whole catfish). Slaw is just ok, hush puppies are decent, but the fish is always great!! If you like catfish you will have to give them a try...don't think you'll be disappointed!!

This review is for a lunch visit by three friends approximately 2 weeks ago. The fish was great as always, hot and very tasty. The service was excellent. The place is very clean with masks and gloves worn by all employees. Never a bad experience at Newbern’s.
