When getting timepieces restored turns into so much more…
My Dad had an old clock on his wall for years, the kind where the time is only correct twice a day. It was fairly ordinary, something that you’d find at a yard sale for .50, yet it held pride of place on his wall, unnoticed, for over a decade or so until one day he began talking about it. He asked me to get a battery however it was so old the whole mechanism in the back needed to be replaced. Now, I needed to find someone who would take the time to see that despite its lack of monetary value, this clock meant something to someone and that it’s ‘personal value’ was worth investing in. After much research, I found that man in Yuri.
An unassuming, gentle and wise man who immediately understood that this was more than an old, kitschy clock. He also understood that this clock held a whole story that marked a passage of time and that restoring it would have a long lasting impact. And it has.
Yuri also understood the significance of this ‘repair’ on so many levels, including that at 83, that there was a time-sensitive element and aspect to fixing my Dad’s clock. Therefore, not only did Yuri, who was clearly quite busy, prioritize fixing the clock - I had also brought in an old watch of my own - and he repaired and restored BOTH in ONE DAY! His work ethic, commitment to customer service and a rare and personalized attention to detail has, and will continue to have, an enduring impression on me.
I’ve since ditched my ‘smart’ watch for my ‘renewed’ watch as an every day reminder of this timeless experience.
