I try not to complain too much, but it'll be a while before I come back here. My family and I arrived around 6 on a Saturday night, and there were only maybe 4 other tables filled. As far as I could tell, there were two people working, a cook in the kitchen and then an older man who seemed to be a manager and also the waiter/cashier.
He didn't so much as look at us when we came in, and a good 5+ minutes later (while we were waiting to be seated) came out from the kitchen and said only "anywhere you like". He then went back into the kitchen. Nobody came back out into the dining room -- not even to give us menus -- in the next 10-15 minutes, and it was clear the other customers needed service too, but there was just nobody around. Several additional tables still had dishes from previous customers, but there was nobody to clean them. This whole time, there was an online order kiosk or something that kept making a ringing noise and was ignored also.
I understand every business is short staffed now, but this was extreme. We left and went to the Caldwell Diner, which was packed with customers and had more than enough staff. The service was extremely quick and very friendly. If you don't have enough staff to open your dining room, then don't open your dining room. I work in the food service business, and we'd rather have a limited operation we know we can run well than trying to "make it work" when we're stretching ourselves too thin.
I'm giving this diner two stars, not one, because in the past when I've gone here, the food has been pretty solid. I just have a hard time justifying why I'd come back here when the Caldwell Diner is right up the street with great food and much better service. ~Zachary
