I'm thankful for the shelter this organization provided for me and my family during our time of need. However, there are some issues that need to be addressed. First and foremost, when we arrived I got the feeling this shelter isn't kid friendly despite being a shelter for families. There is no play area for the children to play. If they run around due to being energetic they're yelled at. The staff is not sensitive to children with disabilities at all. Our room did not have a working toilet. We didn't have hot water to properly shower. It wasn't until my last day of being here my toilet was fixed. We were put in a room with a microwave that had what appeared to have caught on fire. We didn't have any bed linens or bath towels or wash cloths. I was given a tablecloth to use as a towel for me and my two children. I was told to buy my own toilet paper despite the fact that the storage closet next to my room was full of toilet paper. The rule about having to stay out until 4:00 pm I can respect that but having to sit in a room for 2 hours until 6:00pm until you can go to your room seems ridiculous with children with short attention spans. Lastly, I thought this was the most cruel act ever. I waited in line on a Thursday for the food bank and I was told I could not have food for me and my children because I was a resident at the shelter. Even though I told the workers I do not get food stamps and we didnt have any food or any snacks for my children I was still told no. I have never in my life seen a " christian " organization tell a mother with children she couldn't have food to feed her children.

Beware when you are completing your “donation list”. I added items that didn’t appear on the completed item list. Basically, they would only take what appeared on the list. I wasn’t going to donate half of my items, so I will call someone else. I can’t believe a company operating on donations would refuse items. It is nice things that someone will appreciate somewhere else.

This place was a blessing to my family. They offered us housing. They made sure we had beds. We are truly grateful for the staff there. Every situation is what you make out of it. We now have our own place thanks to the staff.

I have had an bad experience there also, uptown, New Orleans, after a few months later. The ball dropped on them and there was an investigation from with the corporate and state about the people's stay. some people were fired for false documents written and ect and the majors were under investigation.

Something needs to be done with that lady, Mrs. Francois. She's arrogant, rude, verbally abusive & condescending. Talks to you like you're stupid & tells you that if you look at her confused, then you have a mental problem & can't stay there. They have a bed bug issue. Also, the cafeteria staff need lessons on how to cook rice. It makes NO damn sense that rice has to be hard every dinner. Seems like they throw uncooked rice in cooked red beans. Retarded!

It saddens me to say, but I have donated a ton of household goods, as well as money to them over the years... I will NEVER again send them so much as a grain of salt... They receive funding for being a homeless shelter, yet if it freezes, and the homeless need a place to stay, they won't allow them to even come in out of the cold, they just turn them around so they can freeze (unless they have the $5 or $6 they charge for a bed). I have personally seen them turn 3 people away when it was below freezing because they didn't have the money... When I saw this I gave the first man $10 to get a bed, unfortunately he was turned around again, and it was clear from the conversation that it was because of his race... I was so ashamed for ever giving them anything... I am personally going to talk to the commission about revoking their funding. They are heartless crooks and what they are doing is a complete violation of their non profit status. I am also going to try everything in my power to have their non profit status challenged. These people are despicable, and they are ruining the Salvation Army name and they should be shut down... They don't even deserve second hand toilet paper.

Myself, along with CCWC (Corporate Council Women of Color) were given the opportunity to volunteer at this Women's Shelter. It is a home and we felt it when we walked in. The cook, I can't remember her name was as sweet as can be. She cooks with love and these women are blessed to have someone like her. Dominic was our tour guy. He was funny, pleasant, and about his business! Thank you all for this opportunity to give back. We left feeling great, knowing that a clean and safe space is provided for these women who are going through tough situations, but they WILL get better.

I went to this place to buy all the furniture for my apartment and I started with a matress set I made a 25 minutes line, in order to pay for that set, but the manager, her assistance and all the gang of racis people (African American) did not let me pay for it just because I am not African American and an African American lady want it and they stop my payment to let that lady to pay for that mattress without making the line. It happened on September 29th 2016 at 1:15pm. I am so sorry for this people, neither me or any of my family is going to buy something from this store, I support Veterans but not the Racist people.

I constantly donate clothing items and money for good causes. I'll never give to the Salvation Army again. They took money from donations and used it to feed police and workers while they removed Louisiana historic monuments. That's not an emergency, or a disaster, and its not what I donated for. Never again. There's other places to donate. May have to see if you've violated your non-profit status as well.
