Went to this place hearing the good reviews. We were seated quickly but it took a good 40 minutes for the server to take our order and another 45 minutes to receive the food. The teriyaki beef that they served was very tough and rubbery, lacked any flavor. The sushi was average. The Mai tai was watered down and not aesthetically appealing too. No one came to check on us to see how the food was or how we were doing. Also waited another half an hour for the dishes to be cleared and for the check. Overall it was an unpleasant experience for a place I had higher expectations for. The server ran behind us to ask where’s the tip? In a rude manner as if he was entitled to receive it regardless. I replied calmly that the service was poor, and he said something under his breath rather than clarifying what was lacking. Train your staff to deliver prompt service, to be polite to customers and make them feel welcome in the first place. Quality of food must be improved based on the menu prices. Wouldn’t return and ruin another night. 👎🏽

Woooow!! This place made my day! I love Genki ya, I feel all my visits were good service is great and food comes insanely fast and delicious. It really is the best sushi I’ve ever tasted!! -Milo, ten years old(by the way I know my sushi I’ve been to Japan)

Man I don’t understand the reviews that are posted here. The food is below average, the sushi is very Americanized. Went as a group and received terrible service. Long wait times and staff that seem like they’re miserable and want you out. Don’t be fooled by the reviews you see here.

My favorite place for delicious sushi, sashimi and special rolls. The presentation is impeccable, even when packaged to go. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and they have some very creative rolls I haven't seen at other places. I'm a big fan of spicy scallop roll, creative, interestingly refreshing and delightfully light.

Tasty, pretty fresh sushi. Sushi combos are a great menu item. Service is quick and servers are kind. A biiiit on the pricier side during dinner hours (though perhaps that’s my college student perspective). Overall, a good choice for Japanese food in Brookline. Lunch specials are really solid.

My favorite sushi place in this area. For more than 2 years already. Large portions, everything is super fresh. Good service. Nice outdoor seating area in summer.

We stayed inside because it's cooler. Pretty quick got our orders. It's tasty, and prices are reasonable. But the place is tiny. I'd take out next time. I've been a client since they opened. Switched from Fugaqyu or whatever the name is of another restaurant.

Just had my second lunch there. Both times I asked the server to choose the lunch for me, both times I was super satisfied. I have yet to even look at the menu! Good if you only have 1hr free for lunch, they will probably have you in and out in 40 minutes tops.

One of my go to sushi places in Brookline. You cannot go wrong with them. They always have fresh fish, and bigger rolls. Definitely try it out!

Great weekday lunch specials. The past three or four times I've had to fly out of BOS in the early evening, I'll stop here for a late lunch. Eight-piece sashimi lunch special is $14 with soup, salad, and rice. Three-roll lunch special is $17 with salad and rice. Just can't be beat! Plenty of metered street parking, quiet restaurant, attentive waitstaff.
