I've lived all over Michigan, in Montana, and in Iowa... Checker Records has the best coffee hands down. John (Owner) is very likable and approachable, with outstanding customer service. First time I went in after I broke my hand (splint) one of the girls helped me carry my drinks out. Second time (cast) John helped me out by tying my shoe after it came undone. Love that he remembers my orders.

I love this little record store/coffee shop. The coffee and baked goods are great (and the themed names for the coffees always makes me smile. They've got a mashup of vinyls, t-shirts, bags, and other little bits. I'm from Jackson and I usually make a trip out to Hillsdale at least once a week just to go to place.

Yes! If you want coffee, yes it's amazing and fresh! If you want a muffin, yes it's soft and everything you could ask for in a breakfast item. This place is so festive and very nice. I love the atmosphere! So if you're looking for a great place for coffee and breakfast, just go!

I’ve been coming here since I was in the 9the grade and I’ve always loved it. I HATED coffee until I tried the drinks at checker records! We used to walk there all the time in high school and we’d occasionally buy some music, and it’s always been one of my favorite places in town. It’s a unique place with an amazing theme and I’ve caught myself dancing and singing to the music there on several occasions. The coffee is still the best I’ve ever had NO competition. It’s always so nice to come in in the morning and the people already know my order.

I come here everyday for their frozen Teddy Bear with 5xs espresso, Irish cream and almond milk. I walk in and they already start writing on the cup. It's nice to step back into childhood with the vinyl records and classic old school rock albums. Great job guys!

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. My family is full of collectors from all genres and RSD is something we look forward to every year. We go to many store throughout the state and were excited to find this place near my mom. I am one of four (adult) children, all collectors, and we were happy to hear when we called that there were still available copies of a 7” we were all out looking for. My mom, who has health issues, kindly agreed to go get these for us as we were all in other areas of the state and asked for assistance from her neighbor. This place treated her very badly which made her cry. They then proceeded to make fun of her for crying followed by threatening to refuse selling her any copies stating it’s one per household and she’s lucky she’s even willing to sell her one. They would not sell another copy to her neighbor because they entered this store together. Their response on social media to a post from my sibling about this experience stated an inaccurate description of what had actually occurred ending their response with “it was a lot of drama that is still playing out on the social media stage” which speaks to the character of this place. They offered no apology for this mistreatment and confirmed they did threaten to refuse “the one or she could leave with none”. Do better. Be better. Be kind.

Visited the store today, and the owner was incredible. Not only did they have two records I looked for forever, but my fiancée loved the coffee shop. This is a wonderful place. These are some really good people who run a really good shop! It was worth the trip to visit! I will be back!
