We finally had the experience of dining here on Sunday afternoon while out riding the bike. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was . The service and the food was excellent! We will definitely be returning. Oh and the Bread Pudding was off the chain!

Atmosphere is awesome. What a great venue. We really enjoyed the food too. The staff was very nice. Only down side is how long it took to get our food. I would recommend going there if you get a chance.

We were going for a drive along Route 5 in Charles City county Virginia. We stopped at Shirley Plantation and on our way back from Lawrence Lewis Jr Park on the James River we saw this neat Bistro on the roadside. The place was hopping from roadside traffic and bicyclists from the Virginia Capital Trail. We ordered the Blue Crab Rangoon appetizer which was crunchy, hot, fresh and delicious. I ordered the Tavern Burger, which had a hint of pink (the way I like it), was juicy and very good. My son had the BBQ Dry Rub chicken wings which were seasoned to perfection and were pretty big for wings. My wife got the Charles City Burger and loved the bacon jam on it. The Country Cubano sandwich is OH So delicioso! Their summer side of Pasta Primavera needed better seasoning and the pasta was a little overdone. The atmosphere was great on a beautiful day. We ate on the screened porch and was able to hear the live music coming from the patio. I would highly recommend this place.

Food, service, and facilities are excellent. The only constructive criticism I would add is the drinks are a little light. I watched the bartender mix multiple drinks using the 1.5 ounce jigger. She never filled it up once. Just my observation and it is actually not that important in the larger perspective. This ia a very cool place.

We often stop here on our way to NC or on the way back. It's about 45 minutes outside of Williamsburg on John Tyler, which makes it a great date place for a special occasion. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Tonight there were more people than I have ever seen (their overflow parking had overflowed), I was really worried we would be waiting for 30-45 minutes. I honestly don't know how, but we were seated right away and there were still empty tables around. They even were able to accommodate my dog who was in the car traveling with us. I love how many different types of seating they have-- which is a strange compliment, but they have (non-crowded) indoor seating, a bar, two porches (screened), a patio, and tables on the grass. Tonight there was live music. There is other nights, but I don't know the schedule. However, it's still very intimate and easy to relax. The food is excellent. They have seasonal dishes and standards. Nothing I have had there has been bad, subpar, or even "just okay." I've always come away thinking, what an amazing chef. The portion sizes are well thought-out and filling and they have a good selection of beers and wines.

5 of us pitched up on our Sunday ride out. Luckily the bar was free and we enjoyed the ale and food. Even tho it was a very busy time for the staff, they should be complimented. Great interaction and attention. We felt most welcome. We'll done.

Love this place! We parked here and did a 40 mile bike ride. When we got back we had the burger special, Blacked Blue Burger. Delicious! The potato salad is marvelous too! Great, highly attentive service. My new favorite place to dine in Charles City!!
