I brought in a 1970's Kenwood 9400 receiver for Mr Waterman to repair last week. I found the receiver in a Salvation Army about 30 years ago and finally decided to have it fixed, knowing it is a good vintage unit when working. It did not work when I bought it but I knew it could be repaired. It turns out it was in worse shape than I imagined. Mr. Waterman had to replace the power switch as well as the main transformer in order to determine what else needed repair. It was extensive - the main capacitors, and all of the output transistors needed replacement and the control capacitors were marginal so I had them replaced as well. This receiver is around 50 years old and was top of the line at the time. It cost way more to repair than I was hoping/expecting, but OMG was it worth it. The quality of sound after repair exceeded my expectations. Dion Waterman does fantastic work, at a reasonable price. And he uses good parts in the repair. It took him less than a week to do almost a total rebuild, including a good cleaning a lubrication of the controls and calibration of the bias. It was ready today and I initially hooked it up to some vintage Dynaco A25 speakers, and could not believe the detail that came out of those speakers - and that was from listening to a local radio station. I will hook it up to a cd player and some vintage JBL and McIntosh speakers. I will be bringing more equipment to Mr Waterman soon. He does incredible work at a fair price and I am blown away at the turnaround time. He is also a no nonsense straight shooter when it come to explaining what is needed and involved for repairs.

This place is a hole in a wall store tucked away in a tiny strip mall. Once inside, there's very little room to move around, because it's filled with tons of older electronics that's either being repaired or is there for spare parts if needed. The good news is, the guy who owns this place, knows his stuff. He's been doing it for over 40 years and has a wealth of knowledge about things that very few people understand today. He works fast and the cost of repairs seem to be responsible from my perspective. I had a turntable from the 70s he worked on, and to find someone else to do this work, I most likely would have had to go to SF, but luckily I could have it done in the East Bay instead

Took my 40-year old barely functioning Yamaha receiver and non-functioning turntable to Diablo Stereo & Video with amazing results. Mr. Waterman worked his magic and both pieces of equipment now work like new. Turnaround time one week. I am now going to bring in my 25-year old stereo cassette deck for service. This is my go-to place for repair of beloved old stereo equipment. If Mr. Waterman can’t fix it, nobody can. 7/30/22

So my grandmother pass away last August, She had a 3 in 1 music system the tape deck work along with the radio, I looked the store up on line to repair the needle on the record player, long store short I pay for the service up front store policy, when I last spoke with the owner we was waiting for the needle to come in and he will reach back out to me, some time has past and I just called him and he said he has gotten rid of the system along with other people stuff, due to the fire Marshall getting ready to shut him down due to his hardening., I am so mad at myself for taken the system to him it has been in my family for over 30 yrs and my grandmother house up until the day she pass away.

This store is such a gem! I brought in the Sony 1100 turntable for repair and I was quoted a very reasonable fee for repair and for a mid-grade new needle. The pricing was very transparent and fair and the owndr is such a nice guy! I had almost given up on this turntable but he had it in working order within a matter of days! Forget the bigger outfits, this is the place to go for stereo repair in Contra Costa.

First off, I really like this guy. He reminds me of my brilliant tinkering uncle that worked for Northrop and was a mechanical engineer that worked on radar systems. He can fix almost anything, likely with the exception of really cheap overseas pieces. I took in my 12 year old and expensive Technics SL-121-M5G turntable. It was running slow. Not only did he fix it but he had great suggestions on a better needle that all turned out to be true when I got home, and he properly setup all the counterbalances. When I came in, I wasn't sure what to expect. I did recognize the sign of a tinkerer when I saw all the components throughout the shop. As I was there, he received a package that turned out to be a difficult electronics board from one of his customers. He was like.. woohooo! He likes finding difficult parts and helping his customers. When I see the negative reviews, I can tell immediately what happened. They walked into his shop/world and told him what he was going to do. He will let you know what he can do for you, and then you decide how to proceed. But, walking in there with a strong attitude about what you will pay likely won't go over well. The reality for this kind of work is it is not cheap and it is not simple to get done properly. He charges a $75 fee to do his assessment, and yes on complicated items he can't give you a price right then and there. NONE of these guys can, and you shouldn't trust guys with "flat fees" people. If you're coming in for some super cheap product, and you expect a cheap fix then maybe you're in the wrong place. If you're an audiophile and you care about your equipment or TV, this is the guy. I feel VERY fortunate I have this guy as a provider. Just like the one (1) tech I trust in the Bay for repairing 1960s guitar amps for me. Hold onto the few technicians that care people!

This place is a diamond in the rough. Dion is an old-school A/V expert who diagnosed and repaired my AIWA double cassette deck for less than what it would cost to buy a brand new deck. He knows his way around all things stereo/video/cassette/phonograph etc., so he is a treasure for those of us that want to keep some of our classic equipment alive and humming. The AIWA double cassette deck I have is loaded with a lot of features you won't find on newer cassette decks--unless you're willing to shell out $500 or more on Amazon or other sites--and even then you probably won't find decks with reverse play, slow play, auto repeat, etc. Dion got my cassette deck back up and running for far less--and in only a couple of days. This place was a great find and I highly recommend that you give Dion a call if you have any old equipment you're considering salvaging or replacing.

Dion is very friendly and very professional. I was thinking about buying a new turntable, but thought I'd give Diablo Stereo & Video a try first. I'm so glad I did. Dion replaced my cartridge and adjusted the counterbalance, tracking force, etc. He did so for a great price and had everything done within a matter of 20 minutes. The process couldn't have been easier. I can tell he really takes pride in his work and his customer service. I highly recommend Diablo Stereo & Video.

I found Dion at Diablo Stereo through his Craigslist ad. He assured me on the phone he would be able to fix my Pioneer integrated stereo amp so I took it in. The amp played but had a bad crackling noise. He reassured me when dropping it off it would be fixed. I left a $75 deposit for diagnosis which would go towards the repair. To make a long story short, after he'd had it for three months with many phone calls and excuses including the postal service, power outages, and my amp being a difficult case, he finally said it was "unrepairable". I picked up my amp and Dion would not return the $75 saying he had "too much time into it". Since it was for a diagnosis he was unable to make, I feel he owes me a refund. I took the amp to another tech and he fixed it within 24 hours. He said it was a simple amp to work on, and the problem was nothing exotic. It was a bad transistor in the filter section. This guy has NO IDEA what he's doing. I would not advise anyone to take anything to him!
