Recently purchased a guitar strap. Price tag was $15, but the newbie sales associate said the price "in the system" was now $20. I didn't want to haggle and hassle for $5. Paid and left the store. A few days later the Bananas owner called me to apologize and refunded the entire purchase price. A professional and generous offer to keep me as loyal customer, which I've been since 1977. If you are a northern California guitarist, electric bassist, pianist, singer, DJ, performance sound and lighting engineer or a drummer you know Bananas. It's a way better shopping experience than any Guitar Center. Recommended!

I was looking for my first piano keyboard, and the sales staff were great to work with. Had to wait a bit when the Yamaha I wanted was not in stock. Meanwhile the staff were all polite and quite helpful, suggested good earphones and stand, etc. Positive experience overall.

I went to Bananas At Large to check out a guitar they had there on consignment. The rep there, Brad, was really helpful: he had just the right amount of interaction - gave me plenty of time on my own to check the guitar out, asked me what type of amp I’d like to play it through, etc., but also came by occasionally to see if I had questions or needs. And he offered up a couple of great suggestions that helped me to really thoroughly evaluate the guitar. Also, when I’d called in advance the day before to ask about the guitar, another rep, Scott, went ahead and put it on hold for me. All in all, a great shopping/purchasing experience! (I did purchase the guitar - a beautiful Heritage H-535.). Definitely recommend this store.

Thank you Bananas At Large. I love my new Roland Juno DS-61. I had a super great experience with the purchase too. I found what I wanted online on their website and then sent them a question via the online link. I was surprised to receive an answer really quickly from Franklin Miller the e-Commerce On Line Fulfillment Manager & Customer Care at Bananas at Large. He was very helpful and friendly, and I completed my purchase with him and picked it up today. I must add that already knew what I wanted after weeks of research and reading product reviews. I have been looking online for a few weeks and had stopped at a competitor’s store in Concord last month for a sale but left because I got the typical response that women musicians often can expect at music stores — I was completely ignored while the sales guys all chatted with each other. Their loss because I was a viable potential sale. Anyway, I appreciate the top notch customer service that I received at Bananas at Large and highly recommend them. They carry a fantastic selection of musical instruments and pro audio gear — and they treat their customers, all of their customers, very well.

So I've been buying gear from Bananas at Large for over 35 years. Their staff is super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The prices are fair or better than fair. Bananas is a unique store and they serve a lot of professional musicians so they have to know what they're doing. If you're tired of getting wrong answers on gear questions from a certain giant guitar store chain, take a short drive over to bananas at Large, it'll be worth your time and money. I drove 35 minutes from Walnut Creek to San Rafael even though there is a giant guitar store right near me that just can't seem to hire knowledgeable people. In addition to the great service I got from Brad, I saved 50 bucks.

Great stuff! I made the decision to invest in a digital piano. I knew I could save a few bucks buying online, but very much wanted to "buy local", and I couldn't be happier with that decision. It was my first time in the store, and Nick and company were uniformly welcoming. They provided some very helpful perspective on things to consider, and my being able to get a feel for the instrument before purchasing was immensely helpful. A day later, the deal was done, and all in all, I'm very happy with how the transaction played out. I can't say enough about the store and the folks who work there. Thanks to all. Great stuff!

I am a novice guitarist in the market to get my own guitar after borrowing my teacher's for the past year. I came to the store with my teacher to evaluate a Taylor she thought would be good for me both to play now and to grow into as my playing skill evolved. We were left to our own devices to experiment for about ten minutes. I tested two guitars. Both sounded good to me, and I was unable to decide. Our staff person came over, and we asked him to demonstrate for us. He switched back and forth playing the several different styles of playing on each guitar. It became clear to from the differences that one of the guitars would become more enjoyable to play, that is had a higher ceiling. So, that was the one I purchased. The salesman was informative and discussed the different qualities of each without pushing one over the other. A very pleasant experience.

I stopped by Bananas At Large for the first time yesterday and was impressed by the guitar (electric and acoustic) and effect pedal inventory. All the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I had met Dan P. virtually on a pedalboard forum (who also builds pedal boards) and he had mentioned that he works there so I wanted to come by and say hello. Ended up walking out with my first fuzz pedal under Erik’s suggestion and have been really enjoying it. I’ll be back for more advice and gear! See you guys soon.

I eagerly drove to the San Rafael store to view and purchase a used keyboard I had found online via reverb.com. The staff kindly set up the keyboard and allowed me to test it at my own leisure. Once purchased, they loaded the very heavy keyboard with road case into the back of my car. Everybody I spoke with was very pleasant. Though I live in San Jose, I would certainly shop here again. They had a great selection of Roland keyboards; I wish I'd had more time to play around with them!
