Amazing Food and Bourbon Selection! The lobster bisque was the best I’ve ever had.

Had the corned beef and cabbage dinner to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Without a doubt the best corned beef I have ever had. I worked in Ireland and this corned beef was better than any corned beef I had there. The dining area is well done and reminds us of the supper clubs in the U.P. The wait staff was exceptional. We are looking forward to a return visit and try selections from the regular menu. This a must try.

We accidentally stumbled on this hidden treasure (not actually hidden, we just didn't know about it) when we traveled through Bradford, IL last Friday night. The atmosphere, the staff, the selection of spirits, and the absolutely FABULOUS food made this the best dining experience we had in many years. Worth every penny. The Highlands is owned and run by a family who understands that the dining experience is so much more than what's on the plate (and my plate was filled with some of the best food I ever ate, Chipotle Rubbed New York Strip Steak and Mushroom Risotto). We were exceptionally lucky to get in because they are only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights and usually full with reservations. This is definitely a place to visit.

The overall experience was okay, with some good and some areas for potential improvement. The mac and cheese entree was very good, but for a $5 up charge to get a small portion of shredded canned/ frozen lobster on top was disappointing. The mushroom risotto was very good. The plate garnish was confusing as I didn't see the need for a slice of orange with my meal. The salad was a good size. Bread came out warm. The whiskey was a bit of a letdown, but better research on my part when venturing into new brands can prevent future disappointments. Overall, it was okay and I see a lot of promise with this location.

The Highlands had the worst service. My family and I waited for an hour and a half. THAT’S 90 MINUTES! And by the time everything came out, it was cold. How ridiculous. The waitress wasn’t a nice person. The water actually tasted terrible and the mashed potatoes tasted like the kind I used to get at school. The plates had weird spots on them and we had no idea what it was. My family and I at least thought that we would get a discount, but NO. There was NO DISCOUNT. What a terrible experience. I will NOT BE COMING BACK. If you feel like waiting 90 MINUTES for your food then I guess this is the place for you.

I really love this place. The food is always amazing, and the drinks compliment everything very well. The quality of food is very reasonably priced. It's such a nice evening out for my husband and I. Honestly one of the only places around that knows how to cook a medium rare steak correctly. The staff is always on the ball and kind, a well-enjoyed experience all around. We'll be back, again and again.

I have family that lives fairly close to Bradford so I have been here to eat a few times when I am back in town. First, I love the decor, very Scottish inspired and cozy. Second, the food is ok, I honestly don't think it is anything amazing but I realize in this area there isn't much to choose from. The appetizer list is limited. They don't offer just a standard chicken breast, everything is covered in sauce. I had the steak and it was cooked to the proper temperature but was your basic flat top steak, nothing amazing about it. I find it surprising that folks have gone on and on about it. The salad is just average, mostly iceberg and very small portion. The issue I have, which someone else eluded to in a review but was discounted by the owner as a disgruntled employee, is that the salad prep station is right by the door when you walk in. This means that when folks come in and stand there waiting for a table they are hovering over the salads. This honestly grossed me out and I cant be the only one to have observed this. Lastly, wait times are very long on a Saturday night, no doubt unable to keep up. I feel like this place has potential but it falls short which is sad because Bradford could really use some fresh businesses to revitalize the town.

Always look forward to coming back here....amazing steak...fanatic about the blue cheese butter....and they always have hollandaise. Really enjoy the mood here. The owners are passionate about the experience, and they consistently deliver delicious food, making sure you feel welcome and valued. This place is great for a special occasion.....weekend night out....or just a Tuesday. The Sunday brunch Bloody Mary bar is worth the visit alone.

The Highlands in Bradford IL is truly a hidden gem. We ate dinner here over the weekend and its was fabulous. I had a steak and my wife had the lobster mac and cheese. My steak was cooked perfectly and my wife said the mac and cheese was the best she'd ever had. On top of that our server Angie was fantastic, she was very helpful on explaining the menu and took care of us the whole night. The décor makes you feel right at home, especially the bar which has a great selection of draft beers, as well as a large selection different whiskey's/bourbons and even has some aged cocktails which the owner let me sample. She said they have close to 100 different whiskeys and bourbons and are getting more all the time. The owner and her husband were very nice and you can tell they really passionate about the restaurant. Which shows through with the overall experience you get when you dine there. If you get a chance I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, I know we will be returning soon!!!
