Update: Last repair was to address headlight issues. My first night drive since picking the car up showed that while the headlight was replaced, the documented visibility issue was not addressed, and after almost $1700 in parts, I still cannot see at night. They had the car for over two weeks. $120 in labor tells would suggest they didn’t even try. There was no mention of cutting me a break on labor. There was no attempt to get clarification on the light angle. There IS documentation that I indicated they were too low, and verbalized several times they were not cycling correctly. Not an adjustment issue…why would that be the fix? The pros: they’re not the dealership. Staff seems genuine in recognizing the frustration that comes with some repairs and costs, and have been relatively pleasant to work with. The cons/concerns: communication is lacking. Last repair time line went from a few days to a couple weeks for various reasons (one being a “glitch in the system,” which sounds like “we forgot”), but at no point did they reach out until it involved telling me more parts had to be ordered. Add this to discovering the engine cover missing after a previous visit, along with getting misfires after new spark plugs were installed (which they did correct), and now my problem above, quality control seems to be non-existent.

Needed a fuel pump replacement had a quote from another service shop and the price was outstanding which left me to view other options and get a second opinion. Came across tuffy while reading reviews and decided to try, i showed them a previous quote and immediately they said they could beat the price and save me some money long story short everybody there was kind caring and professional they beat the quote by more than half the price and finished faster than i expected, i will be a customer going forward with anything vehicle related with this company and refer everyone i know to to get their service done here. The repairs listed have been completed over many years. Tuffys understood that I had a budget to keep my car running and they helped me both maintain my car and when necessary provided emergency repairs. They mechanics have been outstanding! One of the little known gems in the Rockford area are family-owned businesses like Tuffys. Tuffys both knew my car and its unique needs as well as myself as a customer -- truly one of the gems in the Rockford area!!! If you have a limited budget and follow their service plan, both you and your car will make it to your gold years in retirement. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with Tuffy's. I do not feel that their staff communicated effectively with me about the work being done to my vehicle. They were more interested in finding a higher price job than addressing the minor issue I originally took my car in for. I ended up paying over $1300 in repairs and the original issue I had with my vehicle is still not corrected.

I want to personally thank everyone, all mechanics, and Sue, who treated me so wonderful, when I had my 2006 Hyundai Tucson repaired on 1/13/22. I took it in because of a banging noise in the engine. The mechanics at Tuffy’s put in a new air compressor, new brakes, which I requested, oil change, fixed my trunk lid, so that it would stay open, worked on the A/C, and changed a replacement bulb, which I didn’t know that was even burned out! It was a long repair, but I chose to wait, but was always updated by a mechanic, on what was going on. This meant so much to me! 😀 I can’t thank Sue enough either, such a “great” person, and very helpful! Thanks, for all the coupons too! My car runs like it is bran new, so happy with it!
