Just stopped there to pick up one item. Don’t usually shop there because they are very expensive, and the store is not clean. None of the employees and many of the customers were not wearing masks. I asked the manager why and he said Illinois hasn’t had a mask mandate since Sept so everyone could do what they want. Obviously not true. If you care about your health, don’t want to overpay and don’t like being lied to you should shop somewhere else.

Do not buy food at the poplar grove location. If you do buy food make sure to check the date. I bought some butter that had a sell by date of June 2021 in Dec.

We just love having this small grocery store so close to home. Yes, you may pay a little more for some items, but there are some caveats. Get the gas card. You can rack up discounts quickly. Also, the meat here is stellar. Not only is the quality near many butcher shops, but you can catch some great sales. You can also find very good bargains on Boars Head deli products. Also in the deli, be sure to check out the fresh made tamales when they have them. They’re out of this world.

People need to get a grip; stop hating! It’s awesome to have a store where we don’t have to drive 20-25 min each way. It’s a local small chain supermarket it has its pluses and it’s minuses like they all do in every town in every small municipality across this great country. I’m grateful it’s here and thankful for the good employees and I try and take advantage of the good deals and sales which they do have on many products; is it a one stop shop no probably not but it’s wonderful to have.

Nice place to grab a few needed items. Prices a bit higher, so not my stock up store. Sign up for the gas reward club, it is great for getting cheaper gas, and can add up quickly.

This store is absolutely sick. They take advantage of being convenient for the local people. Prices are very high as well as most food on sale is expired is that not illegal.., I went just last week for some ingredients I forgot in a pinch and saw these yummy looking coconut milk fruit cups all expired July 2020... I obviously brought them to the front counter and told the woman she was very friendly. We wont be shopping there unless its last resort. This wasnt the first time ive seen completely expired food there or even accidentallybought it.. just make the trip to belvidere or machesney.

It's convenient and within Poplar Grove for a quick stop. Produce is usually pretty sketchy when I get there. They usually have what I want because the prices of items are that much higher than other stores. The liquor section of the store is the redeeming quality of the place since those prices are pretty much in-line with the other places in the area. Expiration dates on foods are near or in a lot of cases past the sell-by date. The service is usually friendlier than a lot of other places.

Make sure you look at the expiration dates on any products before you purchase. I have seen expired products on their shelves on almost every time I have been in the store in the past 3 months (and purchased expired products a couple of times because I trusted that the store had checked their dates correctly so I did not do so myself). It isn't uncommon for their lettuce to be brown or other produce to be soft when it shouldn't be.

Unfortunately Pacemaker is often convenient for me. I only go if I absolutely have to. Be very wary of sale items, as they are likely expired. The store is overall extremely over priced as well. The only thing that saved this review a little bit is the staff is usually friendly and helpful and they have a card to get discounts on gas. It really would be better if this location was taken over by another store. This review is for the Poplar Grove location.
