I purchased a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer and paid $3,500 for it. I realize that I purchased it as is, however there were multiple things wrong with this vehicle. When I bought it, I thought it was too good to be true. It looked very clean for the price, and had a ton of features on it, which was perfect for transporting my 3 huskies. I found later it was indeed too good to be true. I would strongly recommend you DO NOT purchase vehicles from this place. The vehicle said it had 140,000 miles on it. I got a car fax report and the last reported mileage was over 200,000 over 2 years ago! So the instrument cluster was replaced and it reported the wrong mileage. If I knew I was buying a vehicle with over 200,000 miles on it I would have never paid $3,500 for it. The blue book is less than $2,000 for it. Next, the check engine light started coming on. Then , 2 months after I bought it the muffler fell off. I took it in, and it needed over $2,500 in work done, from the new muffler, to taking care of the check engine light problem, and it needed a new ball joint. I was told it had a recent oil change when I bought it but was informed by the repair shop that not only had the oil not been changed in a long time, they were using the wrong type that was causing other problems.. Also, they were very careful to hide some serious rust problems. A few months later the speedometer stops working, and the battery died. Now, the vehicle won't start and the key is stuck in the ignition, so I can't even jump start it. Now Ill have find someone to tow this piece of junk off my property. It is my own fault for not taking it to an independent mechanic and doing my homework before buying this vehicle. However, I feel that they were very misleading on the past history of this vehicle and sold me a $3,500 vehicle that was worth about half that and had multiple problems that were not disclosed. My first clue should have been that he did not have the title right away and I had to go back a week later and pick it up. Expensive lesson learned. **Just to clarify I do not blame the owner for the exhaust falling off, they are right that they could not predict that. What I am blaming them for is selling me a car under false information. You should not advertise a vehicle with 140,000 miles when it clearly had over 200,000 on it, which information was easily available. Also, there were many many problems, and I was told that it was tuned up, new battery, oil change, etc; which was all false. I have an estimate from a repair shop for over 2,000 not including the $800 I put into it to replace the muffler and battery just months after I bought it. It needs a new ball joint, the instrument cluster does not work, and it has obvious electrical problems as it has to be jump started even after a new battery. Again, I acknowledge that I bought it as is...This is a warning to others thinking of buying a vehicle from here to take it to a reputable mechanic first and get a car fax before you purchase it. Better yet, find another place.

Over the years I have spent thousands of dollars patronizing USA Muffler & Brakes because the work that they do is outstanding. Why the one star rating? Pete Haramantas knows me as a loyal customer. I spoke to him personally and he offered to fix my fuel pump for $340. I asked if it included parts and labor, he said yes. When I went to pick up my truck he told me that the price was $578. This was unacceptable since we had already agreed. I did not want to go back and forth so I finally agreed to pay $500, because I knew that I would only lose $160, but he would lose a loyal customer that referred several customers to him. If you go to him, get everything in writing and record him with your phone. If he’ll screw a loyal customer, he will screw you too.

The last four experiences have been terrible. 1. They gave car 1 back with the hood not latched after performing service under the hood, and it flew back over the windshield going down Broadway. The hood was destroyed. Nobody was hurt. 2. Surging and check engine light on car 2. Misdiagnosis, $350 and not repaired a week later. 3. Electrical drain on car 3. $300 followed by misdiagnosis and irrational, silly excuses. Not fixed. 4. A simple, simple repair on car 1. A week later, no call, not fixed. This was the last straw. -Below is the glowing review I posted in 2017.- The girlfriend and I have taken multiple cars there and have had excellent results each time with the exception of one time. Repairs were straightforward , reasonably priced and accomplished in reasonable time. Diagnosis was correct each time without exception. As an owner and manager of a large shop performing heavy repairs, I can relate to how difficult it is to keep good help, charge reasonable fees and keep the lights on. The only time we were less than happy with the service was with a swarthy, grumpy, grouchy guy who was pretty uncooperative around closing time, or just having his period. I don't think he works there anymore. It used to be a great shop.

I have known Pete from USA most of my life. I have had many times threw out the years to need auto repair. Pete and a another employee Jim. Have always been very courteous when dealing with them. Pete has ALWAYS expedited the work knowing that break downs never happen at covieniant times, also he tries and does keep prices to a minimum and always tells you exactly what needs to be done.pete has been very accommodating to me all these years.i have neber seen him not try.to do the same for others I would & do recommend Pete's USA MUFFLER, be it Hobart or Merrillville location. Pete does most of the work himself when able,Jim who provides the same quality will when Pete is unavailable which is not often.I never give reviews and never 5 star rating.but in this instance I feel very strongly Pete has earned and deserves 5 star,is give more if there were more stars. I won't say this about a lot of people, but I really like Pete and he's earned my trust and respect wich in an industry that has so many scammers and cheats is hard to find. I hope others take their cars to USA and I know you will feel the same. Tell em Mark sent you...
