Best car rental agency in Birmingham, Alabama (AL) 2024

I reserved a car well in advance at this location. When I showed up for pick up, I was told unapologetically there were no cars available. I asked when one would be available. He said he didn't know but would add me to the "stand-by" list of which I could already see 5 or 6 names. Also, the point of a reservation, is to not be on a standby. When I asked if I could get a car another location, he said "maybe but probably not". And told me I should just go online, cancel and rebook somewhere else, which as I just learned doesn't guarantee me a car anyway apparently. The employee made no effort to find a solution, correct anything, or even simply apologize for the situation. In the end, he told me they would call when they got a car - I never got a call. And I had to scramble to find another option because, shockingly, I needed a car when I had actually reserved one for. It became a very stressful day. So Hertz, in the future, do not book reservations you can't follow through on and upgrade your customer service training. ~Shelby
