Best fresh food market in Portland, Maine (ME) 2024

Whole Foods has a lot to offer, and I shop there regularly. The people are really nice and always helpful. The store is clean and attractive. Their produce department is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Since they were purchased by Amazon, their breadth of selection has been diminished, and there are many fewer unprocessed and whole-grain options than there used to be, and fewer local and lesser known products. (For instance, they now only carry pearled barley; they discontinued hulled barley, which is less processed.) This has led me to shop more often at smaller, local markets, which is probably a good thing. But I still shop at Whole Foods regularly, and it is still a really good store. ~Debbie
