Jonathan Cooper Violinmaker

Before my father passed away he gave me the violin that was passed down to him. It was from the late 1800's and he didnt play so it had been neglected for some time but still appraised for $3000-$4000. I wanted to learn how to play so I took it to John Cooper at Acoustic Artisans to have a peg fixed and new strings put on. He quoted me a price of $80, told me it should be done in about a week, and that he'd give me a call. Two weeks went by and I hadn't heard from him so I called him and left him a message. Another two months of calling and emails before he finally got back to me. He explained that my violin was all finished and ready to be picked up but he was in the process of moving his shop and it was packed away so I wouldn't be able to pick it up for a few weeks. He said he'd give me a call. A few weeks go by and no word. I start calling and emailing him again and showed up at his studio from time to time. He tells me the same story, that it's packed away. He always had an excuse of going out of town for a few weeks and wouldn't be able to look for it until he got back. This went on for the past 10 years. Despite wanting to see the best in people and give him the benefit of the doubt, I contacted both the police and a lawyer and they said that unfortunately there wasn't much that they could do for me. So I had no choice but to just keep following up. I called him multiple times and spoke to him in person, explained that it was one of the last things my dad gave me and I'd give anything to get it back. I called him, again and again, and left message after message. Finally the other day I called and he called me back and said he had found my violin. Excited doesn't even begin to describe what I was feeling. I ran right down to get it. When I got there he presented me with a violin that clearly wasn't mine. My violin was a beautiful, deep, red color, with a distinct crack down the front of it. This one was a light tan, no crack, 1 broken string, 2 missing strings, and a missing peg. He insisted that it was mine because you "could clearly see where he wrote down my name and phone number on the neck" from when I dropped it off (10 years ago. With the new number I got only 2 years ago). I know I'll never see my beloved violin again so I took this one and left. I took it to another, more reputable luthier, to have it looked at. He said it's from the mid 1900's and not even worth $25. In addition to the strings and missing peg, the other pegs don't fit, the bottom has separated, the button is missing, and the neck is set far too high. He said that he's knows of a few violin makers around New England that have a history of doing this and I was unfortunate enough to meet one. He said there's not much more I could have done. As soon as I walked through the door he had no intentions of ever giving my violin back and most likely sold it a long time ago. ~PJ

Starbird Piano Gallery

I had a family heirloom upright piano moved by the folks at Starbird. They made the move with amazing care and precision through a difficult and tight entry way with turn up a flight of stars. I was afraid my piano would have to stay in storage. I had a wonderful experience with this company. ~Deborah

Metro by T-Mobile

So very disappointed with this place. I bought a new line and new phone on Sunday 9/15/19 and my phone is having issues. I fall under that 7 day satisfaction guarantee policy to either end my line have my phone replaced or swap to another phone. This store will not honor it. It wasn't the gentleman at the counter as he felt how upset I was. It was there manager Steven who will not follow through on policy. I contacted metro before I went up and they left a memo in my file for my line that I could switch. Yet Steven won't honor it. I am so upset with this place that as long as Steven is store manager I will not go back. PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM HERE! GO TO THE ONE IN WESTBROOK they are more helpful with trying to help fix issues. ~Who

AT&T Store

I couldn't be more impressed and grateful for the customer service I just received from Eric. I fully expected to dodge sales pitches and deal with pushy selling sales reps when I entered the door. I had to make a insurance claim and replace my phone. Eric kindly and calmly laid out all my options and then took the initiative to help fill out my insurance claim with me. He could have said go online and fill out this form but he wanted to assist with the entire process. He said "I just try to treat people like I would like to be treated". The insurance guy on the phone even tried to sell me on a "home protection" service... Eric is the reason I will continue to come back to this location and use AT&T. Thank you Eric! AT&T is lucky to have you. ~Seth

O'Reilly Auto Parts

Disappointed! I ordered a mirror for my 2015 Subaru Forrester not exactly a rare car. Was told it would be new glass with a new heated backing plate that just snaps in. Piece comes just glass will not work. Go to get a refund they charged my $9 for shipping will not refund. Is what it is and I would be fine but I feel I was lied to multiple time never was I told there would be a freight charge to simply order the part I need. Will not use them again ~Ian

Camden National Bank

4 overdraft charges in 2 days? That is $140 in overdraft fees because I cannot physically drive to the bank that is over an hour away from me with Covid-19. These people are actual crooks. I'm out of work for 2 WEEKS because of covid-19 too. I will definitely be closing up my account here after paying the $140 in overdraft charges and head to a credit union. I have been with this bank for 9 years and they have never done ANYTHING good for me. This has been a long time coming. This is the last straw. ~Little

Hamilton Service Station Inc

I can't speak highly enough of Hamilton. They are responsive, professional, thoughtful, honest, straightforward, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. They run a great business and are accordingly pretty booked up every time you call, but the wait of a few weeks is worth it (assuming your vehicle is road-safe). They'll even give tips on things to do while you're waiting to get in to see if you can diagnose or mitigate the problem on your own. I've never felt more loyalty to a mechanic in my life, and I've only gone twice. Thanks, Hamilton! Services: General repairs & maintenance, Brakes, Oil change, Steering & suspension repair, Tires ~Brian

Jake's Quik Stop

There are no less than four gas station/convenience store operations within about a half mile of each other in this section of Rosemont. Each one will most certainly provide you with what you need, but Jake’s won’t leave you light in the pockets like the others will gladly do if you’re going to be pumping gas. You’ll never get hosed as the prices there are always at or below the daily mean. Jake’s also boasts a well-curated sample of local beers with good, sometimes great deals available. The wine selection is modest, but it won’t disappoint your tastes unless you’re a bit finicky. If you are, then ditch the wine for pints. The Ben & Jerry’s freezer is right near the entrance. As for the customer service, you’ll remember it for all the right reasons. Good people. Better dogs. ~John

Paulin's Tire and Auto Care

A friend recommended Paulin's to me and I cannot say enough about it! I am really happy with their customer service and quality of care they put into their work. My car had a tire with a slow air leak...I called ahead to see if they had any time to look at it. They weren't booking appointments for another 3 days but told me to stop by and they'd see what they could do. 4 hours later they had a new tire put on my car and it was ready for me to pick up! I was blown away by their efficiency and the clear communication all the way through this process. I was able to pay over the phone as I was still at work when the car was ready, and I picked up my car later in the night. They left the keys for me and even had a protective floor mat and plastic covering draped over my seat! This attention to detail speaks volumes to me about how much they truly care for their customers. I feel so thankful for this place, and their prices are extremely affordable, too. Greg made my experience super easy. Thanks for all of your help, Greg! ~Derek
