My phone broke. I went to the ATT store to replace it. It took the guy half an hour to deal with the first customer. Then there was another customer in front of me. It began to sound like this would take another half hour, so I left. I went back the next day, browsed the phones displayed for sale, gave the clerk my account information, and told her which model I wanted to purchase. She informed they do not sell phones for purchase, they only finance them for purchase. In the past I would simply buy the phone at the ATT store when the previous one broke. I tried to wrap my head around this new concept. The ATT Store is a store…that sells phones….only they do not sell phones…but they display the phone models for sale….which they no longer sell….they Finance. The clerk sounded kind of ditzy so it felt like a good idea to leave as soon as possible. I am not sure how ATT Stores came up with this new business strategy.
