I had a transmission repair issue with this shop. Brotz replaced my old transmission lines and topped of my fluid after a leak was discovered. Fast forward about a month, I’m encountering the same transmission issue, right in the middle of the holidays. I had to wait about a week to get into any local shop, so I picked the first one that answered their phone (I need my car for my job). After the second shop had some time to look under the hood, they informed me that my new transmission lines had not been installed properly - rather than attach them with the proper tool, Brotz had cut off the ends of the old transmission lines, cut off the connector-ends of the new transmission lines, then hose-clamped the two together. This “repair” resulted in all of my new transmission fluid leaking out, potentially damaging my car further. Due to my need to my car to be repaired ASAP, I asked the second shop to pull the trigger on the repair after seeing the damage that Brotz had done. After my repair was done properly, I went back to Brotz to request a refund on the transmission lines and fluid, as the shop would have needed to pay for these again, even if they were the ones fixing the mistake they had made in the first place. The shop owner tells me that he doesn’t have the money and that I’ll have to take him to court - I told him that I understand that times are tough and I’d like to avoid court, to just work something out to save us both some time. He loosely agreed to this and I told him I would be back to talk after a little while. Two weeks later, I go back to the shop and the conversation goes about the same as before, only the shop owner also rants about firing all of his staff and suing another local garage, which was kind of confusing. As it turns out, my spouse verified with another local shop that they had been re-doing repairs on cars that had been to Brotz. Apparently, several other folks were in the same boat I was. Finally, I go back to Brotz after another week has passed to talk to the shop owner again. When I spoke to him, he told me that because I didn’t come to him first for repair, he wasn’t liable for the parts his shop butchered before putting them into my car. I replied saying that I was there to work something out, to which he said “I don’t want to work things out, you can go to Hell and get out of my shop.” Save your money, your time, and your vehicle - go support a different local garage.

Could not install exhaust manifold without ruining my engine. They tried to make it look good with a screw instead of a bolt. Also sold me a part that was defective and caused complete engine failure Is this the person you want to take your vehicle to? I don’t think so. This is what the owner thinks of my review I left them because of the work they failed to do correctly.

Doug Brotz and sons are honest, hardworking and knowledgeable auto technicians. They've gone above and beyond to get the job done right whenever I've brought a vehicle to them. When I ask them to ready my truck for a long trip I leave there with confidence that they've gone over it thoroughly. I give them a 10 for effort & expertise. With Brotz Automotive I've found an auto repair facility I can trust.

Just called over there to get a New York State Inspection completed. Told me to give him about 10 minutes and head on over and he can fit me into his schedule. PERFECT! Be right there! Sure enough, in and out and a done deal! Even quoted me for some work which seemed pretty fair. Ill price shop too but ill be back im sure. Thank you for your prompt service!

I can not say enough positives about my experiences with this shop!! I recommend friend and family and everyone has given positive feedback. If you are looking for a place that will identify and fix only the problem, not exaggerate the problem and cost then Brotz is the shop for you! The family owned business is a little distance for me to travel, but it is well worth it!! Eagle street is easy to find--just off 96 in Phelps. They have a comfortable waiting area with a tv and lots of magazines. I am sure you will be happy that you found them!
