Much more than just trout. I ordered couple days ahead for Friday pickup. Pleasant person called and left a message my order was ready to pick up. I ordered a variety of items as the photos will show. So far have only tried the smoked trout dip, entire family raved how good it was. Bacon and trout sausage for tomorrow’s breakfast and whole trout for dinner. Very impressed with the packaging and cleanliness of store front. Had smoked rainbow trout for breakfast. It was mild and so much flavor. It was hit with my 1 year old grandson and 75 year old Mother. On a bagel with cream cheese, red onion and capers was fantastic! For lunch my youngest made trout sausage bagel sandwiches. Delicious!! Thick sausage patties with just the right blend of seasoning.

I haven't been to the farms yet, but I order the products and they are delicious. Not all farm raised trout is good, so don't judge by what you have had in the past. Sunburst is fantastic. Celebrity chefs cook with this trout. We are vegetarians, so are happy to find clean delicious protein to add to our vegetable diet. My favorites are the smoked trout and the trout jerky. Great mail order service and the people who take the orders are friendly and pleasant.

My father-in-law and were fishing on the Pigeon River. In the event we didn't catch anything we didn't want to come home with an empty cooler, so we stopped at Sunburst Trout Farms on SR 215. One criticism is that the entrance is not well marked. The sign is small. The front buildings looked more industrial and less inviting to the public. We went to an unmarked door where we saw a vendor loading trays of iced fish fillets into a van. We stepped inside the door, there was no security and nobody to greet us. We saw the whole process of beheading, deboning and filleting the fish being done by about twenty dilligent, hard-working employees who seem to enjoy their work. One worker was removing fish meet from the backbones to be used in fish dip and other trout by-products. I was amazed by this process because this was a part of the trout that I would have discarded. They used every part available. We toured the trout ponds and feeders. As the grass was freshly cut around the pond the fish were jumping and going crazy. I have never seen so much rainbow trout all in one areas. That waste is discarded and/or reprocessed. This is a totally green and ecologically responsible business, no products are wasted and there is little if any harm or pollution to the beautiful Pigeon River. We went back inside and spoke to Stephanie who was at a desk in the office. Again there is no appearance of a storefront of any-kind because they do their business mostly by phone or internet orders to hundreds of restaurants, distributors, retailers and regular customers. Stephanie gladly assisted us and ordered up about 4 lbs of trout fillets, freshly cut. The fillets were bagged on ice and withing minutes we were on our way home to the grill. Sunburst Trout Farms is a must see operation for the fisherman or anyone who loves to eat fish. It's 15 minutes from Waynesville NC and only 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway off the NC215 exit.
