I have worked as a Volunteer for The YMCA in Florida. Coached for parents kids in several Sports, My children were involved in the local Y in Bradenton. Very close friends with key members of the Board the Former CEO, and employees. I have never seen a Y, ran as unorganized as the Y in AIKEN! My grandson was visiting for the Summer and I submitted paperwork for him to attend camp for the week of the 4th, they copied my ID during the process and then somehow lost all of the paperwork I had submitted to them! So I had to do the paperwork all over again and resubmit it. They could not find the original paperwork and had no answer for what could have happened? Then they had a Shaved ice event for the kids where the kids based on what was explained to me, had to be responsible for paying and determining their change due to them, if they had it coming back to them. My Grandson while only 5, this was to me PERPLEXING! I am not certain about other children, but I did not give the COUNSELORS a $10 bill with the expectation that he (my grandson) would need to do the leg work to make certain he paid for the shaved ice, got the correct change back, and received WHAT was supposed to end up being a Souvenir cup for the money that was taken??? The explanation I received was that many parents give their (I am assuming) their children as young AS 5, AS MUCH AS a $20 dollar bill and let them handle the process themselves, so the. I ask, what do you need counselors for? Don’t get me wrong there are things I could have done differently, such as label (for change, and not to spend more than this amount) but that being said I believe it should be a simple expectation to have counselors if they are available to manage such a situation, I don’t care if the child can manage the situation!!!! Extremely poor experience all around!!!

Excellent service of Aid for Membership. The Facility was Active with children for the pools. Everything else was fine. Special information: Facility can no longer offer swimming during winter.

Great place to take kids for swim lessons or for fun. Pools' temperature is okay. Prices are reasonable even for non-members.

Went to the Y today for a water aerobics classes, the staff was very helpful and nice, water was very nice & the place was so clean. My only personal concern for me only wish they had double railing getting out of pool at steps.

I love this Y. I wish someone could finance an indoor pool--then it would be perfect. It is very clean, and the employees are very helpful and friendly.

Disclosure: Long post (read to the end and you'll understand). It pains me terribly to give this review since my family has such a long history there but I have to for the good of others. A few weeks ago, I took my son back there for the first time in going on 3 years. We came in the morning as we had always done since he was practically a toddler (he is almost 10 now). I was in the gym and the staff had my number on file, but when I came to get him I was told that they couldn't accommodate children his size in the morning unless schools were out. I told them that we home school in the afternoons and that I shouldn't have to break that schedule to bring him there in the afternoon when childcare is supposed to be part of the membership up to age 12. Then I was told to come back on certain days when there is more staff there. I said OK then left, but after I got home I realized that we pay the same rate as everyone else but now I have to make our lives more convenient for them? No sir. I went back and told the front desk person that I wanted to cancel my family's membership but was at least willing to hold on to it until the end of the month so my son could swim at the college as was advertised. Then I was told that was for adults only which was NEVER expressed to me before. That was the last straw. My son has high functioning autism and hemophilia, and there were many times over the years that the only thing that seemed to soothe his mind and swollen joints was that pool. I've had to carry him on my back, put him on a scooter, or a wheelchair because there were times he couldn't walk, but the pool made it all worth it. I tried to ignore why I cancelled the membership years ago which had to do with them claiming they "lost" his Camp Puzzle Palooza registration 2 years in a row instead of just being honest about either not being capable or not wanting to deal with his special needs (even though that specific camp is supposed to be for kids with special needs). But all this was just too much. The icing on the cake was that whatever happened while he was last there seemed to traumatize him so bad that he's had more anxiety than I've seen from him in well over a year. I gave 2 stars because I did appreciate the years of smiles and happiness that this place provided my child. I wish it was still like that. I am writing this not to be vindictive or to sway anyone's opinion of this place, but to share our truth and to hopefully help others make an informed decision about it.
