Came in at 1:30 p.m. with my 88 year old mother whom was sent here from urgent care by the Dr. It is now 5:57 and she has not been seen. She has a cellulitis infection going up her leg. Nothing for her to Elevate her leg on and it seems to be getting worse while we are sitting here. Several people have been through and all have used the restrooms that will soon run out of toilet paper. I do appreciate the staff and know they are doing the best to accommodate, but am really getting frustrated 😠

Great nurses but still waiting for the update call after surgery to tell my spouse I am okay and in recovery. That was 2 weeks ago and still no call I called her when I woke up. Stay away

Now I understand ERs are busy. But when someone is sitting (2+ HOURS), waiting to be seen when bleeding and going threw a miscarriage. And none of the staff did nothing to accommodate her in stress, pain and bleeding down her legs. Now that is seriously messed up. Oh hold up someone did come out to clean the blood from the floor. While she was waiting.

Last September, my wife experienced a bad fall in a parking lot. She shattered her humerus and destroyed many nerve connections that severely limited the use of her right hand. We were out of town when it happened. The local hospital tried to get us into UW-Madison…our regular provider but couldn’t because of COVID. The only hospital that could accept her was St. Mary’s SSM. First of all, the health care she received was excellent. We can’t say enough good things about the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at St. Mary’s. Dr. Opel and Vanderbilt are simply first-rate. On the health care side of the ledger, I would have to give St. Mary’s a five-star review. Unfortunately, the business side of the equation has ruined my opinion of the hospital and anything associated with SSM. I’m not the type of person who writes negative reviews. However, the SSM business organization has been inflexible, uncooperative, and frankly incompetent. We received NO discounts from SSM (the hospital side of the bill) because we were out of network. This seemed unreasonable to me because we had received discounts from the "physician" side of the SSM bill. Many times the discounts were simply described as, “payments”. After many discussions with both SSM and our insurance company, we agreed to be put on a payment plan. For the first payment, we paid approximately five times the suggested payment plan amount to the hospital. The payment was sent well before the due date and we received confirmation on MyChart. Shortly after, we received a nasty text message stating that our payment plan had been revoked and that the bill was being sent to collection. We again contacted SSM, and they insisted that we hadn’t set up a payment plan, or that I did it “incorrectly”. After finally losing my temper, they agreed to reinstate the payment plan. This needless debate was simply salt in the wound, because we have the entire text chain that contradicts their claims that we made a mistake. Frankly, I’m tired. We have had to deal with a major injury as well as battle the SSM bureaucracy. As we approach Medicare eligibility, we refuse to consider any supplemental plans with SSM. We don’t want to deal with the hassles. What a disservice to the hospital staff, doctors and medical personal that they will not receive our business. What a pity.

Husband had cabg surgery which involves opening of the heart. Of course we were very concerned and afraid but every single person went out of their way to make us feel heard, comfortable and well cared for. But, even better than that, the skill of the doctors and nurses was exceptional. We can not think of a thing they could have done better. The outcome was great. Followup amazing. Wow.

Usually I have no problem coming here, usually very friendly. However tonight I brought my fiancé in, and they tried to tell me that I needed to wait outside. I informed them that my fiancé is special needs and cannot be alone. And on top of that the man Infront of us was aloud to wait with his FRIEND. They told me it was because of the covid rules that I was not aloud to wait inside. I told them that doesn't apply when we live together, and I'm on his care team, they did not care tonight. My Fiancé was not comfortable in the waiting room alone and was not able to get treatment tonight because they were not understanding. VERY disappointing.

Had to call patient relations about the emergency department not following their own written policies. They tried to tell me to leave my friend who isn’t originally from the USA who may need interpretation at some point alone in the waiting area. They said I could go back at first with my friend but after I asked to see their policy they completely changed their mind and started yelling at me. The head nurse at the desk screamed in my face and waved her security officer over because she was mad even though I didn’t even scream at her or threaten anyone. They freaked out my friend because she was already super nervous and panicking. The policy while we were there actually states she can have up to two support persons with her in the emergency department. I asked for patient relations and an interpreter and they didnt get either at any point. I called after getting the information myself the next day and the hospital doesn’t even care a little. This hospital is TERRIBLE and I personally have had experiences in the ER at several other hospitals because I have a lot of recurring ER issues come up myself and this was by far the absolute worse experience of my life. Save you and your family/friends the pain of evil people and go to one of the other hospitals available. Ps they were not worried about her or I having covid when we gave them her symptoms. See the policy they gave me below. Also I notice they only ever give generic responses on here. DO BETTER AND RETRAIN YOUR STAFF

If I could give zero stars I would. Registering for my husband's surgery was inconvenient. The employee looked like she just woke up. Unprofessional looking with wrinkled clothes and condescending attitude. The greeter for registration was absent minded and not friendly. Vsiting hours are shameful. No other hospital is as rigid with visiting. I would gladly have my temperature taken and be asked the questions if I was allowed to leave and enter the hospital more than once a day. If I would have known visiting hours were so rigid I would have went elsewhere. 5th floor nurses and assistants were bothered to do work. Call button was just turned off not even a "how can I help you?" I had to go to nurses station for help and they're all either standing or sitting around talking. It's a cardiac floor and the care was awful. We don't ever plan on returning since we live an hour way. What a awful disappointing experience. The food is awful as well. Zero stars.

Really friendly staff during my visit but the organization there is extremely lacking. Nobody knew what anybody else was doing or saying to me, everyone contradicting the others, called to get a simple document and got transferred like 10 times and hung up on multiple times. But again, very friendly nurses that took care of me and the surgery staff seemed friendly as well. Just disorganized with information.

5 star hospital 🏥 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at St Mary's Hospital back in November when we had our second child. About 8 in the evening my wife was mentioning that she had some contractions during the day but they were starting to get worse. So we decided to call our doctor and our doctor said very urgently that we needed to get to the hospital because it sounds like my wife was going into labor which she denied. Needless to say 2 hours later we were in the delivery room holding our baby. It was a crazy fast and very stressful experience but the staff at St Mary's made it so much better. They took amazing care of my wife and myself. It was a very positive experience and for parents that don't know what they're getting into they help you with everything along the way and for experienced parents like ourselves it was exactly what it should have been. We added pictures of the food in the menu so parents knew what they were able to eat while they were staying there. The food isn't terrible but it is hospital food so make sure that your expectations aren't crazy high. My wife didn't seem to mind because she was starving so she ate everything they would bring her. My wife's favorite part of our stay there was that the bed was double-wide that way the husband could also laid next to her in bed instead of me sitting in the corner on a chair or a couch it was wide enough for both of us and that was a huge deal for her Will definitely have another kid there haha. Quick note the nursing staff was amazing and I think they should get it a shout out. You guys rocked thank you for all of your help!
