I made an appointment over a month ago. Had my clothes clean, folded, in recyclable containers. I made sure everything was new or gently worn. I read the rules and regulations on what The Exchange will and will not accept and I was excited to finally take my items for donation. Here's the thing. Be prepared for each bag of your clean and folded sheets, towels, clothes, etc. to be dumped and personally inspected by what I can only describe as a rude, condescending woman. After the first bag, I decided I'd rather keep these things in my car until the next time I go off island than donate than be judged and treated harshly at the Orcas Island Exchange. ~Reaga

We ventured into Ray's General Store & Pharmacy during a visit to Eastsound over our long weekend Orcas Island visit. The displays were beautiful and the store's offerings were plentiful. The toy section is one of the best I've seen in my state-side travels. It reminded me of a European toy store with an assortment of toys, crafts, Legos, games, stuffed animals, baby clothes, gadgets, stationary and more. Our children loved picking out treasures at Ray's General Store and Pharmacy. They loved the store so much that we went back the next time we were in Eastsound so they could pick out another item to buy with their pocket money. I also needed assistance with moving a prescription from out of state and was very happy with the service and care that I received. I would recommend that anyone that visits Eastsound, make sure Ray's General Store and Pharmacy are on your "must stop" list! ~Melissa

Oh! Glorious baked goods: let me extoll thy virtues! The craftsmanship and flavoring brilliance of these bakers is legendary. 15 minutes past opening and the line snakes out the door and down the steps—and for good reason. We sampled 4 or 5 pastries and were transported by each new wonder. The Orange Morning Buns are not to be missed. (Unless your fate is like ours, when we arrived 30 minutes after opening and the first batch was sold out. A sad and wasted day, indeed.) The balance of bright orange and subtle Vietnamese cinnamon is rapturous. I’m in love. My first taste of the almond themed Bear Paw and I fairly sang my joy. Oh, Good Lord, I rarely encounter such baking perfection. Rather sweet for me to eat the whole, but it was still delightful that evening. I’m confident Brown Bear closes 3 days/week for the good health of all of us who would find self-control a serious challenge were these offerings available every day. AMAZING service!! I notice my tire pressure going down on my subaru while on vacation--- upon closer examination, found a nail in the tire! It was the end of the day, and I needed the car drive-able by the next day. Called Crescent repair (recommended to me by the locals), and one of the mechanics stayed late (almost half an hour after closing!) to get me back on the road. Very reasonable price, and so friendly!!! THANK YOU CRESCENT REPAIR--- you saved our vacation! :) Two weeks later, it's still holding tire pressure, good solid repair! ~Haley

Good. Has typical Ace selection. A bit overpriced, but that's normal for the island. I appreciate the service here, great for vast majority of home and garden needs. Likely best place to buy paint on island. ~Sly

I have been coming here for years and now I like it even more. Their food and drinks seem to be better than before. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the bay. You can take a walk around the campus, look at the museum, and come in for a nice lunch/dinner or drink. They also offer a nice brunch. I stayed here many years ago and was not too impressed with the room because is pretty out of date, Look like an old apartment got converted into a resort. They do have a pretty nice balcony overlooking the bay and their outdoor heated pool is nice. ~Kimberly

Unexpectedly delicious breakfast items. The grab-and-go hot case has about a dozen options from burritos to English muffin sandwiches. The jalapeño biscuit was particularly satisfying. Overall (and surprisingly) a much better stop for a quick breakfast bite than the market or coop. ~Han
