Founded in 1990 by KC native Carolyn Alter, Alter's Violin Shop provides great personalized service and expertise. Honesty and integrity guide every decision and interaction. Alter's Violin Shop has 3 primary areas of focus: 1. Maintaining an inventory of quality and affordable violins, bows, cases, and accessories. 2. Instrument and bow repair and maintenance 3. Private violin lessons and an adult ensemble. Shop hours are 9-6 M-F and 9-2 Saturday...but an appointment (calling ahead) is very much appreciated and recommended!

I highly recommend this small strings shop for purchasing and repairs. Carolyn, the owner, is knowledgeable, reliable, and friendly. We bought a student level violin, then a step up violin, and now a student level viola. All instruments have been excellent quality and excellent prices, less than competing string shops. Additionally, Carolyn does not push her customers into buying or spending more than they want. She educates and then steps back to let the customer decide. My daughter's love their violin and viola. Their music teachers have been impressed with the quality of their instruments. I plan on buying a step-up viola from Alter's when the time comes. I know I will find quality and excellent pricing at Alter's Violin Shop.
