I have worked with Craters & Freighters for over 5 years. The packaging and crating they provide far surpasses anyone else in the industry. My end clients have commented numerous times that it is the best crating they've seen. I recently utilized their services on a personal level to ship my uncle's artwork to the West Coast. Although it was delicate and difficult to pack it arrived in perfect condition. Highly Recommend!

AWFUL SERVICE! I run a crating and freighting company in California and we hired Craters and Freighters in Kansas City to receive some household goods on our behalf and deliver the shipment into the home of a client. We shipped just before Christmas. We knew the shipment would arrive during the holidays and would take longer to be delivered. We called in early January to check in. The rep acted very surprised and grateful that we called because she had no way of pairing our shipment with us or its local destination. She explained that because this was an unknown shipment they had to put it in their warehouse and were waiting for someone to contact them about it. She said normally they would have refused the shipment but decided to hold onto it. She then informed me that we owed $25/day ($400 if I recall correctly - this included two holidays and weekends) for storage and an additional $150 for the steps at delivery. Very confused we confirmed that on Dec 13th we were quoted for the job, our sentbox had an email with shipment info that was sent by us on the 22nd to C&F, and the shipment was received by C&F on the 20th. Also, as with any shipment the recipient (C&F) gets a Bill of Lading (BOL) from the trucking company with the shippers contact information on it. Additional shipper and consignee contact information is listed on every side of the pallet. In her email the rep said she had not received any email regarding the delivery and preemptively included "Our server keeps every single email we have ever received." That seemed a bit odd so when we asked her about the quote request and the email with delivery information (acting as an admittedly slightly late NOA (Notice of Arrival)) we were told that a screenshot of our email going out was only 'supposed' proof and would not be taken into consideration regarding the late fee charges. However, when she sent a screenshot of her inbox not having our email in it that was considered absolute unwavering proof... because you know... their "server keeps every single email they have ever received". Never mind that deleting an email and providing a screenshot is much easier to do than doctor an email thread. In regards to having a BOL and shipping labels to refer to in order to contact us she said that she "is in their office and doesn't know what the warehouse does and doesn't receive." Hmmm... your warehouse receives a shipment that you have quoted and nobody communicates with anyone to figure it out... again, despite there being contacts, phone numbers and addresses all over the shipment and paperwork. I can't help but picture the Raiders of the Lost Ark ending when the crate gets filed into the infinite warehouse along with an added bonus scene where the lowly paid crate hauling employee promptly throws the shipping manifest in the trash and shrugs his shoulders. Stairs. It is industry standard to charge for hauling things up and down steps. This is typically done by billing $50 - 70 per a flight of stairs depending on locale and difficulty. C&F Kansas charges $10/stair which translates into about $120/flight of stairs. Steep and weird, but fine. However, when we realized that the charge was for $150 we looked more closely and realized they were charging $30 to walk up three entryway steps into the home. "I have attached the credit card authorization for $855., which includes the three exterior steps..." Mind you it is a wide open landing with no railings or anything to block you. Just an additional screw you charge to enter the home. We were told that if we "paid the storage fees today and only today" we would be able to get half off on the storage. This wasn't said in a conciliatory way of 'Hey. We have expenses and our experience of this job caused us to use storage space and labor and we have to cover our costs, as much as a conman ringing you with a one liner to round out the extortive experience... knowing that you have little to no recourse. What were we to do?! Our client's possessions were being held hostage and we had to pay. So we did. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Horrible! Scheduled the pick up for 9am several days before. They called me 30 minutes before pickup to cancel because they decided they're own bid was too low.
