Decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was the worst blowout I ever had in my life. It was by a "junior stylist", so fairly cheap, $30. However, he used a metal brush and a fan with such high heat that it damaged ALL my hair. He literally burned off all my hair (and sadly ears). I've had good and bad blowouts before, but never one that burned my hair so darn bad. It will take months if not years to repair the damage. 2 stars because the shampoo lady was very nice.

I went here for a 4pm appointment arrived a bit early and got situated right away. Had my hair washed and the lady was super nice. The front desk as well was nice, but only the young lady spoke to me, the older lady kind of just stood there. I told the guy who was cutting my hair I use no products and that I have my bangs going to the left and that I wanted the sides and back cut short while the front was only a trim. My hair was pretty long at this point as a guy. He proceeds to cut it and I figured it wasn't too bad when I got out. I get home shower and let it dry. The outcome... Terrible. I'm glad it's even on the sides and back but the bangs are terrible. I feel like I look really terrible and I paid 55 for a guys haircut here and this is how they sent me off saying it looked great. Would've really appreciated the honesty and something along the lines of not sending me out with a terrible haircut and saying to sit back down and someone else will take over. So frustrated. Will never come back and won't even ask for a recut cuz it's just not worth it. As a guy I go to salons all the time but for a 55 dollar haircut this is just terrible. Maybe women have better luck with their haircuts here but the guy clearly did not know how to cut my hair and should've just let someone else do it. Service: Haircut

Only been a few times, but got some of the best haircuts of my life. Truly listen to your wants, individual hair quality, etc. instead of giving a generic, impersonal haircut for everyone. Have already recommended to many people! Service: Hairstyling

Because there are many individual employees who are so courteous and helpful, I ignored aspects of customer service and skill that were lacking in the 3 years that I have been getting my hair high-lighted at Ambiance by Kim, the colorist. I checked Yelp reviews and it seems that I am not alone in my disappointment with the blithely disrespectful middle-aged women controlling the front desk. I always felt rushed by Kim and her jam-packed appointments reflected in the chunky, uneven highlights. But the color was lovely and she seemed like such a nice person. I am low-maintenance anyway. The Ambiance website confirmed my suspicions... a full head of highlights is allotted 30 mins. of time with the colorist and the removal of foils is assigned to an assistant. The cost is $185. Kim is running an assembly line. The straw that broke this camel's back at Ambiance Roslyn was an attempt I made to reschedule my appt. 48 hours before said appt. The witch recognized my cell phone(!!) and immediately asked me to call back "when you are sure about your appt. honey". I thought oh she's confusing me with someone else! When I conveyed my confusion ( I repeated that I was calling to reschedule) she said " Kim said that you reschedule ALL the time so you're not permitted to make any more appts. unless you are sure you can make THAT appt." I asked her to be clearer.... She repeated the insult and it was so degrading. She was so utterly degrading to me. I am still in shock..."Kim said you are not ALLOWED to make any appointments unless you are sure you can make it". I am an oncology RN and a responsible, normal human. But suddenly I was in 2nd grade in Catholic school, in trouble with Sister Mary Philips. I would never argue with a business when I can just leave and take my money elsewhere so I said, oh no no no cancel the appt and I won't be returning. And hung up. The exchange was bizarre. And irrational. Do the owners know that this is how the desk speaks to customers? I checked my 2020 calendar immediately and it turns out I went to Ambiance THREE times in 2020 for color. I rescheduled (always giving at least 48 hrs-one week notice) 2 of those 3 times. And, obviously COVID had played a role in that. And my handicapped son. We live on the North Shore of Long Island where we all have the luxury of finding a business that trains their staff to convey policy. But Ambiance does not have a policy and instead, there's at least one misfit answering the phones. And a focus on profits. Ambiance is inconsistent at best (I had seen the red flags before). And my imperfect highlights reflect a much bigger problem at Ambiance Roslyn. I have just made an appointment with Darren's in Locust Valley as he comes highly recommended by a friend. Fingers crossed for Darren's!

I hadn't been happy with my current stylist for a while so I was ready to take the leap of faith and try somebody new. After researching google for local salons in my area I came across Ambiance. I recall seeing a lot of positive reviews for them on a local Facebook group, so I decided to try them. The person who answered my call took the time to listen to what I was looking for and thought about who would be the ideal fit for me and she set me up with Denise. Denise was wonderful! She also took the time to listen to what I wanted and shared how she can achieve that with her expertise-she certainly did. I walked out as a very happy new client!
