We've been using this pharmacy for a few months. We moved to the area from State College last year. People in Penns Valley are mostly quite kind, and this pharmacy has a reputation for friendliness. Precisely for that reason, I was taken aback by the impolite reaction to my name from one of the ladies who work at Thompson Pharmacy in Centre Hall (not a pharmacist, but probably a cashier of sorts). Mine is a short Spanish surname that ends in a vowel. When I uttered it to pick up a prescription, this lady reacted with visible aggravation. I had to spell my surname several times for her, but only after she herself wrote it down did she seem to understand it. I do not want to guess why she felt so aggravated by my surname - my accent, the very nature of a Spanish name. But it was an unpleasant & impolite interaction. If there were another pharmacy nearby, we would switch right away.
