It's the largest Asian grocery store in the Charleston area (maybe even all of low country?) so it's great by default! Honestly it's about perspective: If you're from larger urban areas it's going to feel inadequate and dingy. If you're from some more rural areas then this place is akin to an oasis in a desert and pilgrimages to this location are required to maintain your sanity. Philosophical thoughts aside, it's got a good selection of products and plenty of parking. Lots of produce, appliances, and even a decent restaurant inside as well! Even though its only competition is the 'International' section of Walmart the store offers quite a lot for a decent price!

Crazy large Asian Supermarket - akin to being in Chinatown! If you need it, they probably have it from fresh produce, groceries, frozen, supplies, fresh meat and seafood. The market actually had that great, fresh, appropriate smell of the beach. As a former seafood manager of a multinational Supermarket chain - I do appreciate that! Plenty of well stored boxes for carrying home purchases at great prices. Lotsa parking by the door.

Large store. Good variety of products. I have been here many times and will continue to use this store only because it's in a convenient location when I visit Charleston. I would have given 5 stars if the staff was friendlier. They don't say hello, or anything for that matter, when you get to the register. They don't speak, even when I say hi. They only talk to me when they give me a total of how much I owe them.

Absolute horrible service! Went to have lunch in the restaurant side and sat for well over 30 mins and never received my food. I watched everyone in there that was seated after me receive their food while my daughter and I just sat there waiting. One table ordered exactly what we did and received their food 5 mins after they sat down. After everyone in the dining area received their food, I confronted the waitress and she all of a sudden acted like she couldn’t understand what I was saying. This was highly disappointing as my daughter and I have been looking forward to trying this dish from here.

H&L is a great local Asian grocery store that's the largest in the Charleston area. It has variety and a huge selection of products imported directly from South and Southeast Asia, including fresh produce, frozen goods, meats, and fish. I've seen food from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippians, Taiwan, and Malaysia here, and they even have a small section dedicated to Mexican goods as well. Aside from food, they have an extensive section dedicated to appliances (rice cookers, hot plates) and a lot of porcelain vases, statues, and other decorations. They have a lot of products for the kitchen too, such as soup spoons, chopsticks, forks, napkins, plates, etc. I'd say the only place they're lacking is alcohol. They used to have a decent selection, but these days they only have some Chinese and Japanese beers, and a couple of brands of sake. The location isn't great, though I don't hold that against them. The store is an old Bi-Lo and you can tell, the old artwork on the walls and even the aisle signs are still the same. There is a great restaurant inside called Pho #1. It's a genuinely great Vietnamese place, and I love going to eat there when I'm done shopping. They also have a small kiosk off to the side that offers phone repairs, but I've never used it before. Overall, this is a great Asian grocer that offers a lot. It's got the biggest selection of any Asian grocery store in the Lowcountry (perhaps all of South Carolina), it's not too expensive, and there's a great restaurant attached to it.

Yesterday was my birthday and I had the day off, so I planned a tour of culinary delights. I started here, because I have been meaning to check this market out for some time. This place is amazing! Aisles loaded with every variety of Asian fresh, bottled, canned, and dry good! It is extremely well-organized and has nice wide aisles. Masks are still required, which I appreciate. I didn't bring a cooler so I had to walk past so many delectable refrigerated and frozen treats and the incredible seafood section, but I will be back for them another day! I did grab a jar of kimchi that looked irresistible and stayed cool til I got it home. There are plenty of regular kitchen staples, so I grabbed some garlic I needed too. Loaded up on spicy Ramen and fun snacks and then I found the canned and bottled beverages! I want to try one of everything, so this will definitely require multiple visits. There are oils and vinegars and sauces and dressings, herbs and spices and coffees and teas! Dried rosebuds and lavender, just so much glorious stuff, and reasonably priced. There's a huge kitchen section with quality restaurant necessities like woks and salt shakers and strainers and sake cups and just everything you can think of. You can bring your own bags or they will give you a box like at Costco. I ended up with a pretty big box LOL Can't wait to try all my goodies and go back for more! You'll find all your old and new favorites here. It's a true treasure!

I can find most of my Asian items that I want for my cooking needs. The store is clean and customer service is good and quick check out. I can find all my noodles and sauces it’s great.

Look, this is the best Asian market we have in the Charleston area (incredibly low bar), and I appreciate that it's well stocked, but... it's not great. Aisle signs don't correspond to what is sold, so good luck finding what you need. Some items are grouped by type (soup) whereas other are grouped by cuisine (Pinoy), with no real organization. There is never a staff member if you need help. The produce section is paltry. If you are used to shopping at H Mart in a real city, H&L is kind of depressing.

This is the largest Chinese grocery in Charleston. Carries a large variety of dry, canned, and frozen goods. The fresh goods (veg, fruit, meat, seafood) is not as varied but the quality is still decent though limited in quantity. They can do custom orders for goods as well

Went to this store in search of tender coconut. The store has all Asian products with vegetables to meat and the packed food as well. However the tender coconut was not tender and the water tasted very bad.
