This place is really good, the food is all fresh here and made to satisfy. The restaurant isn't made to serve more than 3 families at a time however.

Not a bad little diner! CASH ONLY! The diner itself is a very small space, but that really wasn’t a problem. I came in on a Saturday morning and ordered the special, chicken fried steak. It was excellent all around and came out in a timely manner. I didn’t catch the name of the chef cooking that day, but the tall gentleman working the grill on the afternoon of Saturday, August 13th was extremely friendly and did a fantastic job with my food. Great work!

My husband and I try and eat at The Fort Diner at least once when we are in town. The portions (and taste :) ) are good as are the prices. There's always a stack of local papers to look at while you wait. Remember they are not open on Mondays and they only take cash -no cards. Totally worth it though!

We love The Fort! The food is fresh and made to order. The burgers are divine! Seriously, one of the best burgers I've ever had! FYI - They only take cash or check, no credit cards.

Seriously, did some last minute Christmas shopping, and asked a nice store owner where we might find a nice place to eat. She suggested this diner, and OH MY GOSH what a treat. The people were down to earth, home grown kind of people, the most fantastic chicken strips I've ever had in my whole life, and it just felt so old fashioned. I loved it. Small place, but I really recommend trying it

Wallyburger was delicious and the place did not disappoint. Besides the food our server Kennedy was very sweet. She really took care of us. We came all the way from St. Louis for the best burger in Iowa according to a food magazine and they were right. It was that good. The bbq that they were bringing off the smoker also looked fantastic.

This is the perfect place to eat in this town. Local, regional, friendly staff, open kitchen, straight forward unpretentious food. Our visit to Ft Madison is all the better for eating here. We had the Walt's Mess and the 1/2 Wally Burger [a whole one is 1 pound of beef - we SHOULD have ordered that, it looked better than the 1/2 when presented], and onion rings. The customers were great, we spoke with several at the counter while we eat.
