I haven't been to the Safeway on Charles & 25th Streets since before the pandemic hit. Looks like it has been remodeled. Better lighting. Well stocked shelves and aisles. Very clean store. Better selection of foods for all eating tastes. Was surprised that they had a good selection of plant based options in the meat section. Customer service was great! I was able to find someone quickly to help me get a few products off the top shelf that I could not reach. Sale items were still available. The only reason I gave the store 4 stars is because it is one of the smaller Safeways. Limited selection in the Deli/prepared food area but they had the main deli items like Amish potato/macaroni/cole slaw salads and grilled/fried chicken. Would definitely go back.

Self-checkout stations were mostly broken and all regular checkouts were closed. Employees including the manager (!!!) seemed really annoyed by the customers trying to buy their groceries. The manager was also really mean, disrespectful and impatient because we didn’t understand something she said (exchange student here, not used to English). When we asked her to be more patient and explained we’re not from the USA, she got angry and told us to leave her store. So no foreigners welcome there, I guess?

The worst experience of my life as a customer! The store itself was ok… some messy shelves and no one around to help, clearly understaffed. But the checkout was terrible! Totally unorganized and the cashier, who told us that she was the store manager, had a really bad attitude, not helpful at all, very aggressive and mistreated my daughter for no reason. My husband and I intervened and the lady told us we should leave the store! So unbelievable! Not the friendly neighborhood experience as Safeway tries to sell. I’d give less than 1 star if I could!

Extremely nasty young woman working in the self check out. Snapped at me for not knowing you wait til the end to get the paper bag? Excuse for only having been here a couple times. Maybe teach your employees to speak like a normal person instead of being rude from the jump.

I truly believe that the Charles Village Safeway is a chaos nexus. On some Dr. Strange s*** for real. Some days they have 100 shopping carts and no baskets. Other days they have 200 baskets and no shopping carts. I once saw a toddler in only a diaper walking around slapping all of the meat. I once saw a service dog eating an abandoned burrito in the middle of the frozen food section. If you like to overhear arguments between really strung out Hampden couples this is a place for you. If you need coffee creamer I would go somewhere else because somebody shattered the door in front of the coffee creamers and it's been covered by a giant piece of cardboard and two shopping carts for almost a week. Pharmacy is a 10 out of 10 though. Always well stocked, super polite staff, almost never a line and if they don't have a medication for my toddler in stock, they will refer me to another Safeway pharmacy that does so we don't have to wait until it comes in for him to feel better. Also a really good bakery???? I can't pin this place down at all.

This place SHOULD be great - it’s been a mainstay for the neighborhood for years and was just renovated. The problem is, the staff/management don’t seem to care about making it a quality store. Always long lines with few registers open, self check out registers broken down with a line that runs the length of the store, surly employees, the organic produce is typically rotting and/or expired. Several items from my last shop were just expiring or way past expired (one soup I picked up expired in June 2021) but I realized too late. They won’t keep shopping baskets in the store because they all get stolen, I’m told - but there’s a security guard at the door who just socializes all day and lets them walk out of the store. None of this would be accepted in the Canton store, but for whatever reason Safeway neglects this store……I’ll shop elsewhere from now on.

We were waiting for fresh fish and the woman was very rude she did not tell us that she wasn't personable at all. She didn't say hey wait a minute I'm doing something right now but I'll be right with you she was extremely rude. I don't know if it's cuz we were black and she was white but her attitude resonated that she did not want to serve us and that really made me feel some kind of way but the cashier Devin d e v a n was great

This store has gotten worse and worse in the years I’ve lived in this neighborhood. Guaranteed at least 2 self check out stations will be closed. All lines will be at least half way down each aisle. Employees including managers are genuinely annoyed that customers are in the store and cannot be troubled to help anyone at least not without attitude like you did something to them personally by needing groceries. Also, don’t be surprised if you see a bunch of random foods opened and half way eaten while you are perusing the aisles as this is common.
