Dan and Staci are excited to announce they have opened The Derby Restaurant & Bar in New Market, MD. Both graduates of the Culinary Institute of America with over 15 years experience, they bring a unique and flavorful spin on local favorites, crafted with fresh regional produce and high quality ingredients. Curbside Pick up & Contactless Delivery are now available! Breakfast is served & delivered on Saturday & Sunday from 8 - 11:30. Lunch & Dinner delivery begins at 4 pm Monday - Friday, and 11:30 Saturday & Sunday. Carry out is all open hours. Delivery is available within a 5 mile radius of the restaurant, including Lake Linganore, West Winds, & Spring Ridge. We accept delivery orders up to 15 minutes prior to closing the kitchen.

Wonderful venue, with several different atmospheres for dining or hanging out. A regular restaurant area, a family-friendly outdoor patio with picnic type seating, and a traditional bar side. We were on a kid-free date, so no outdoor patio for us--and the indoor restaurant was a bit too structured plus we were looking to watch some football, so we quickly opted to pop back over to the bar side. Super happy they served the full restaurant/dinner menu in the bar where we chose to sit to enjoy some Sunday night football. Yet we still started with a huge portion of bar-food staple cheese fries (an app we probably didn't need!) which ended up almost being a meal in itself. For entrees, the husband had the sesame crusted tuna, with fire roasted asparagus and jasmine rice, and I had the short rib. HUGE portion of short rib chunks served with root vegetables and a tomato based ragu/gravy/sauce over mashed potatoes. Good, convincing slow-cooked (and very much homemade) flavor profile that absolutely fit the "comfort food" description the bartender gave. And I ate leftovers for 2 meals! Overall great atmosphere, with friendly patrons, and friendly bar staff, football on TV, and decent drink prices. We just moved even closer to New Market from Frederick and this is sure to become one of our regular places.

Have visited Derby twice and been very satisfied with the food. The restaurant is a tad small and the parking and entrance are complicated, but once you find your way in the restaurant its cute and comfy. The menu is quite extensive and the food is reasonably priced. The rockfish bites are phenomenal and the rotating eggroll of the day is a fun touch (the options were buffalo chicken and crab dip during my visits). The cilantro lime swordfish is incredible but the "chutney" was mostly red onion and super chunky for a chutney, but enjoyable nonetheless. The short ribs are comfort food at its best. The ahi tuna is amazing, but make sure you enjoy Wasabi as the Wasabi cream really makes this dish. Only two dessert options, but the peanut butter pie was delicious! There are some incredible sounding sandwiches and pizza that I look forward to trying.

The service was a bit slow. But the food was well worth the wait. They don't have any Islay Scotch to go with their seafood dishes, but I'll let that slide. Lol the staff was more then friendly. Parking: For the easiest way in park in the back.

The Derby is a favored place of mine! The staff are always friendly and the owner frequents and interacts with people. The seating inside is good and the outdoor seating is great! They being live music to entertain too,(not sure when). The food is always great, and very satisfying. The scallops dinner is priced well and you get so much. The crabby pizza is the best I’ve had around. The drinks are good and they have a full bar. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

We’ve been here at least a dozen times and absolutely love it! If you haven’t been - the mozzarella lancers are AMAZING!!! It’s their spin on mozzarella sticks but they’re panko crusted and incredible. The taco salad is great, French dip, egg rolls, etc! I love the outdoor seating as well. Last summer they had a moo bounce for kids - giving us adults an opportunity to actually finish a meal 😊 Very family friendly!

Lovely casual, yet classy, atmosphere. Marvelous service and tasty food. I suggest the incredibly thick Chesapeake Burger (beef burger with a crabcake, cheese, lettuce, tomato and a lovely sauce.) The crab bruschetta was also very good!

This is my favorite local place to eat. Fun for the whole family! There is a large outdoor seating area. Live music on the weekends, a crush bar for orange or grapefruit crushes, a little ice cream shop in the outdoor area serving up the best local ice cream from south mountain creamery, and a moon bounce to entertain the kids!

We had a nice outdoor dinner here with some friends, and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service. They were extremely busy on a Friday night, but we were seated in 10 minutes and our server was at our table almost immediately. We had some drinks from the outdoor crush bar while we were waiting. There is a small seating area there, and also an ice cream stand for dessert or a snack. We had the fried pickles for an appetizer (yummy!), the Crab cake sandwich (which was a little light on crab, mushy and not what I would expect for a Maryland restaurant, but fairly tasty), the Veggie wrap (which was mostly rice… not many vegetables), and the fish tacos. The fish tacos were delicious with a little spicy sauce and avocado. I thought that the portions on the fries with our meals were pretty small, though. (I think that I got maybe 12 fries with my sandwich?? A little disappointing…) The food overall was average, and not worth a 4 or 5 star rating. Prices were very reasonable. There are indoor and outdoor seating options. There are two porches on the front and back with seating, as well as a large yard area in the back with seating at tables. They have a separate bar area for those that just want to sit inside and have drinks and snacks. We enjoyed the live music during our dinner, too! There is free parking in the back. A relaxed place with fairly average food and menu choices (at decent prices) to take your family and friends.

Not bad at all. We arrived there when there was bad weather, so the place was a little empty. Our server was quick and courteous. We got our drinks relatively quickly and our food in good time. The food was great. The crab cake sandwich was a big crab cake with lettuce, tomato and onion. The turkey, bacon and avocado panini tasted fresh and was delicious. The onion rings were a little limp, probably needed to sit on something to absorb the oil a little more, but not bad. The crab dip for an appetizer was delicious and so was the bread that came with it. A couple nearby was having a pizza and it smelled delicious. The restaurant is separate from the bar, so we didn't hear any loudness. It was actually very comfortable and a good place to get away from the cold.
