Believe the reviews. This place is the worst. I tried to ask the girl the employee a question (she was not with anyone) and she didn't acknowledge me and just said "get in line at the register". For a question!? They apparently dont accept madewell, Anthropologie, reformation, prana, or abercrombie. All my things were ironed and nicely folded. I was handed back a box that was a mess and things falling out. And was told it's not what they're looking for after 3 minutes. An absolute waste of time

Waste of time, the last couple times I’ve been in there I’ve dropped off 2+ bags full of clean, folded, name brand clothing in good condition, and they don’t even look at them. I dropped off probably $500 worth of clothes today and within 20 minutes got the text that they were done. The clothes were still how I had folded them in the bag and they didn’t take any, let alone even look at them

I have sold here several times before with some success, but today was very disappointing. I dropped one bag of items off and decided to look around the store until my items were processed. This usually takes an hour at most in my experience and I like to take advantage of the 10% off discount. After over an hour had passed, I was one of only a few customers in the store and I was finished looking around. I decided to go up to the desk to ask the employees where my items were at. This is when the girl tells me I would have to wait another 1.5 hours! I understand that there can be long waits..that is fine...but why didn't anyone tell me when I dropped off the items that there would be such a long wait?! I would have dropped the items off and returned later to pick them up. As the employee suggested, I decided I would "bring them back another day". She then handed me back someone else's bags of items. It was a complete waste of time.

Called them asking when they close drop off. They said they stop accepting after 7:00. They said to call half an hour before I show up so they don’t close drop off. I told them I’d be there at 5:00 and they said that drop off would still be open. I got there and the attendant said drop off was closed. Drove all the way here just for them to not accept anything. Thanks for nothing. You guys are one of the worst Plato’s I’ve ever been to.

Buying and selling experience are totally different. Have bought a few items for my daughter and have had no complaints. The selling experience was awful. I brought in 50+ items for them to look at and they didn’t take a single item! Most of the clothing items were name brand, several still had original tags on them. Their reason, for not taking anything? We don’t take clothes with stains (none of my clothes did) or piling (again if the items were brand new how would they have stains or piling!) ohhh and we don’t take pajamas (not a single item I brought in would be even considered a pajama) Sadly, their inventory already in their store was a lot more worn than the items I brought in. I understand not taking everything, I don’t understand not even considering the brand new jeans and sweaters from Express and DKNY, bags from Victoria’s Secret, and brand new Nike apparel. Don’t plan on ever going back. I have had a better experience at Goodwill dropping donations off for free.

They don’t have great stuff, great prices or much variety. No party clothes. Just tons of the same things that look too worn. If you bring clothes in, they often scan the top and don’t look at everything. I had Guess, Abercrombie and American Eagle jeans under some semi-formal dresses in my bag, and they just handed me the bag back a minute later with a rehearsed speech saying that the formality wasn’t right for their store. 😂 Also I gave them a pair of $20 high tops I’d already worn… they put them out for $27. Just sayin 🤷♀️

I don't suggest wasting your time (because that's what it will be) at all. They don't accept anything even though when you look around the store they have things that are in the worst condition. I brought in Lululemon and brands they had mentioned on their website and Instagram that they were interested in with the tags on, but they declined all my items including my nicer handbags and shoes that have never been worn. I got the same rehearsed speech is everyone else in the reviews, but if you're going to tell me my clothes are worn when they literally have tags on them, you need to reevaluate yourself and business because those clothes were off the rack, never been worn. Also, when I went in to pick up my items, there was a woman in line before me with several Michael Kors handbags in great condition that the employees didn't even just not look at them they gave each other weird eye contact and whispered among themselves in front of a customer just to tell her we won't even look at them. It was so unprofessional and for an environment that was slightly laid-back like Plato's Closet, absolutely disgusting behavior on a part of the staff. I'd give them a zero if I could, but I wanted to write this review to ensure it would be seen by management, specifically, to describe what seemed like the ringleader among these girls there was a girl with black hair, she was quite skinny and she seem to be running the show, turning away customers, and terrorizing the other girls working. I surely do hope next time I decide to bring clothes here that that girl is not working, that she no longer works at the store, and that Plato's Closet is the place that used to want to be.

I love Plato's Closet and we shop at the Portsmouth location regularly, but happened to be in Manchester and saw the store. I learned that this location is owned by the same franchisee. I have to say though, they are two very different experiences. Unfortunately, we were unable to find any items from our favorite brand which typically is found in abundance at the Portsmouth location. We were there on a late Sunday afternoon and it was insanely crowded like there was some super secret sale happening that we didn't know about. The clothing items on the whole (with the exception of the new with tags items) were in much shabbier, worn, and stained condition. The store had a bit of a musty smell as well with hints of cigarette smoke. Although, I can't be sure if it was the store or other customers we had to wade through. The rows of racks in the women's section were narrow and 2 people had to pass eachother sideways or else brush up on eachother. I also can find clothing on the Shein website (which is certainly not a high end or luxury brand and famous for being made out of cheap materials) cheaper than the well used Shein items on their racks. We were very disappointed. I am only giving a 3-star rating because I love the idea behind Plato's Closet for those of us who want to wear name brands but are on a tight budget. The rating is also based on the fact that the same franchisee owns the Portsmouth location and is much better kept.

I brought them clothes a couple hours before they closed. I was browsing and saw them “process” my drop-off which entailed of them putting it on a shelf, they did not even take out/ look at one article of clothing, and then texted me my items were processed…….every single employee was just gossiping or on their phone. I brought Nike and Lululemon, such a shame and hard to believe they didn’t even take a single item let alone take them out of the bag . Not worth your time to bring your clothes
