World Gym - Pensacola in Pensacola (7166 N 9th Ave, FL 32504)
About:
It all started in the '70s at Muscle Beach in Venice, where celebrity sightings were commonplace and serious bodybuilders were putting in serious work. By the '80s, our small gym full of hand-built equipment had grown into a global fitness empire, and our dedication only grew as our membership base did. Today, we're more than 200 gyms strong, serving several continents. Bringing back the classics, like old-school weightlifting with barbells, we're dedicated to keeping fitness simple and effective. And, across locations, we're carrying on the World Gym tradition of making sure our members have access to seriously fun fitness. Every. Single. Day.

Do not get a membership here unless you plan on having it for a long time. I have been trying to cancel my membership for the last 5 months. I turned in my key fob the first week of March and was given a phone number to call to cancel that no one ever answered or returned a call. After several weeks of trying the phone number my ex husband called and was given an email. It took a week for them to email back paperwork that I had to send back. It took another week for them to email me back saying they wouldn’t cancel my membership unless I paid 140.00 dollars. Ridiculous.

I've been going for about a year plus or minus. I love the facility and the size. Not too big not too small. However after relocating to a new job and no longer being on that side of town I’ve tried to cancel. Cancellations are a HUGE inconvenience. You’ve got to call a 800 number just for that corporate drone to tell you to email some anonymous person for a “cancellation form” which proceeds to tell you they’re about to plow you for at LEAST $200. No where in the process of signing up do they inform you about the cancellation process. And if you’re trying to workout for a cheap rate (assuming $8.99 is all you can afford) and need to cancel you will be penalized heavily. Any other gym I’ve been a member of was as simple as “I’ve got to go” and “no problem, have a great life”. Here? Not so consumer friendly The staff is good however, I’m sure they have little to do with this. Still, communication and upfront honesty is critical.

I keep calling and emailing them to let them know I requesting to cancel my membership, and they're still trying to charge my bank 4 months later. This place is run by scammers and incompetent lowlifes that won't lift a finger to actually cancel your account and make it as much as a headache as possible just to squeeze another dollar out of its customers. I haven't been to this gym since January and I won't ever be going back. (Edit: this isn't anything against the actual staff of this gym itself. Everyone is super nice. But you get in contact with any sort of customer service or anything above them and that's where I've had issues.)

Originally, I loved this gym because of the size and location. I’m not a fan of huge gyms so it was definitely my first choice. It’s not the best for heavy lifting, and the emphasis is more toward basic training and conditioning. I joined with a 3-month membership that gave me access to the outside and the cage. I was later told I wasn’t supposed to have access to the cage and would have to pay more; I did as it wasn’t that much of an increase. However, on my third renewal I was told that the price had increased again, but this time it was $110 more than the original price that I’d paid. When I asked what exactly caused the increase, there wasn’t much that could be said nor was there much of an explanation behind why the price has changed every time I’ve renewed. It may have just been lack of communication between the staff but it’s definitely an issue. I understand that they’re adding new amenities, but you pay separately for them. The equipment is decent but there isn’t much range in machines to have that much of an increase in price & because the outside isn’t cared for, a lot of the machines are rusted and stuck. Essentially you’re paying more for space to actually work out, than for the upkeep of the gym & in my opinion, the gym is not big enough to charge that much. I’ve since cancelled my membership and joined elsewhere for the same price that I started World Gym, they have a better range of equipment and a sauna that doesn’t cost extra.

World gym is evil. Their payment plans are filled with hidden charges that they tack on after they entice you with low monthly rates. They charged my card 80 dollars after my first month there's also 60 dollars per year in maintainance fees. Plus, they're telling me I have to pay 100 dollars to cancel my subscription. It's 20 dollars to suspend a membership for 4 weeks and 65 to transfer your membership. Evil company. Avoid at all costs.

Absolute scam. High prices, you have to pay for each part of the gym in separate sign ups. Rusted weights outside. Extremely difficult to cancel and they will autorenew you if you happen to forget. Something like a 200 payout if you need to cancel. Plenty of other gyms in the area. Not a good amount of barbell type stuff in there. Feels crowded inside and dirty/rusted outside. Would not recommend.

Visiting for the holiday we decided to check out the local world gym. The staff was very pleasant and helpful including the full tour by Edwin. Dumbbells went up to 120lbs inside and the outside yard. Outside includes plenty of free weight equipment and the larger tires both for flipping or using the sledge hammer on. Inside they offer enough cardio machines, Dumbbells and various other equipment to keep anyone happy. They even have a 2000sq turf in the back for added value. Hydro beds and the red light salt therapy are added bonuses for those that become members.

Been a member for over a year, friendly environment, plenty of weights, machines and equipment, clean and well maintained. Very affordable, 24 hour access. Great place to get or stay in shape. Classes and personal trainers available. Cross fit, powerlift, body build or just tone and lose weight, this gym has something for everyone.

Top notch equipment, super clean, spaced out well. Even at peak hours I never feel crowded as there are multiple options from machines to free weights so everyone gets what they want. Love the outside “gorilla garden” on pretty days. All around great gym-love that I can incorporate it with my Salt Athletics membership.

The gym and services at this location were great; downside is the corporate cancellation policy, which is absolutely terrible. They make you buy out the remainder of your membership, plus the semiannual fees. This is my 4th gym membership over the last 15 years (lived in different cities) and I've never encountered something like this. Not the fault of the people who run the Pensacola franchise; they were great. I'm not even saying not to join. But make sure you read your membership's terms and conditions very carefully, and try to get a non-term membership if they have the option.
