Great prices and they serve Bauder's pharmacy ice cream. Try a peppermint chip sundae with hot fudge!

I rarely write reviews, but we are from out of town and noticed how friendly everyone in Des Moines is until we stopped here. Both employees were very rude. It was almost like they were mad at each other. We ordered and they forgot about one order and then made the other order wrong. We were sitting at the bar and they wanted to close so they were spraying chemicals near our drinks. We moved outside and were told that they needed to close and move the chairs inside. We arrived at 4:30. They were open for another half hour. It was extremely rude.

Bagel was fresh. Service a bit slow. Cappuccino was heavy on milk.

A true gem! Breakfast sandwiches, coffees and Italian sodas were amazing! We had a large party and not only was the staff super friendly and patient with all of our questions and orders, but everyone devoured the food.

Super friendly staff who helped me find a great "surprise me" drink for my husband. They suggested the Gandalf with almond milk hot and he loved it. I got the Raven and it was a fantastic wake me up cold drink. Their book selection may be smaller than some shops but they still have a wide selection on topics so there is something for everyone! Thanks for being such a great little gem to find while we were home visiting family.

Fun, old-fashioned style soda fountain in Des Moines' East Village! Best part is, it's a specialty micro-business employing individuals with disabilities. There is a used bookstore in the back that you can browse. They don't do any advertising, so it's rarely crowded since only locals know about it.

Love the ambiance, literary menu names, ice cream, and coffee. My sandwich was Ben's Bird of Courage. Looked perfect but too big to take a bite and everything fell out. Broccoli cheese soup tasted great but a little too liquid for my taste. Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: Yes Takeout: Yes … More

Came here with my dog and sat outside. Coffee was decent but what really blew me away was the sandwich! The Salisbury was AMAZING!!!

Really good/dope/sick sandwiches in a genuinely cozy lil shop. Love the back room with a modest selection of books to browse (including an excellent section of left-politics titles).

Staff was super cool and friendly. Dog friendly, they offered to get my dog some water without me even asking. I got some peppermint ice cream that was delicious, all of their ice cream is handmade, but not in house. Also was only $1.60 for my single scoop. Very cool independent book selection. Vintage vibe.
