Our business recently rented a truck for two weeks, and the day we were driving it back to be dropped off in Miami the truck broke down . We contacted Ryder, and had to have the truck towed to the nearest location which was Tallahassee, Florida. After unloading and reloading heavy and expensive items to a new truck, we headed to Miami to complete delivery and return the truck “on the day that was originally contracted.” BUT- Ryder charged us an additional $2500 for an additional 2 weeks!!! When we contacted our agent, they denied any additional fees were charged, even though we provided bank statements and screenshots. After further investigation, he determined we had been charged the $2500 and that we could expect a partial refund after the truck was returned. What??? After attempting to call the Tallahassee office multiple times, I tried the 1-800 #, and after explaining the situation, were told by the Ryder employee that they were unable to assist us and then they hung up on me.
Having the truck break down was an inconvenience that ended up being financially devastating. Due to the delay caused by the truck breaking down, our driver and passenger missed their flight to come back to MO, with all related expenses we are out an additional $1000.
Ryder had great prices but it came at an even greater price. The company needs to improve on communication and customer service. ~Allison
