I arrived at Avis in Detroit near the airport to a line that was nearly full and only one attendant. The other attendant eventually came but provided no relief to the inefficient customer service . Both left the office to meander the parking lot for some reason, and they had no sense of urgency. It was as if they were going for a stroll in the park as their customer service line grew. They need more help to provide speedier customer service. What’s the point of reserving a car if it’s not ready? They tried to get me an f150 when I reserved a compact. He said he would have to call one or I could take a small pick up. When I agreed to the small pick up , magically a compact was sitting in front of the office. I wasted 25 or thirty minutes just waiting to get to the front of the line and I can only imagine the wait for the rest of the people behind me. Just terrible. I’m sure none of the other rental companies are any better, but geez get your act together and respect your clients’ time.

Never rent here. 1) The middle eastern or Arabic guy who worked 6/26/22 afternoon was making unwanted comments about other rental customers. 2) Made me wait longer for the car and asked for two ID proofs with photo, even though I have rented several times in the past. 3) Charged 102$ for fuel even though I returned it full tank. 5) Called customer care who wanted the receipt and later took the gas station address and told I will get refund in 5-7 days. Took 30 minutes to talk and no apology for false charge. Dollar car rental customer care will answer the call in 1-2 minutes. Brand name does not mean better service. Will never rent with Avis hereafter. 6) ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT FOR FALSE CHARGES.

Be sure to be aware of the $250 security deposit for debit cards (even if you paid early). It's hidden beneath the fine print. It takes several days for the money to be returned to your account after drop off. Stood in line for over an hour. Staff wasn't unpleasant but I wouldn't describe them as a pleasant experience either. I'm sure they're short on workers. There was one lady who upgraded my vehicle. She was amazing, I wish I could remember her name. She was kind of small and possibly caucasian. She was very kind.

Buses are constantly late. And the cars are always dirty inside. They even put stickers saying they have been cleaned, but based on these pictures, how can you tell me they’ve cleaned anything? It’s gross!!! And a big lie. They should not be allowed to rent them out like that

Worst experience I have ever had renting a vehicle from Avis (and I travel weekly for business). I am an Avis preferred member, which should allow me to “skip the line” and have a vehicle assigned and waiting for me. This was NOT the case. Waited for 2hrs+ to talk to the counter agent and get assigned a vehicle. When I did receive the vehicle, the inside was dirtier than any car I have seen. Dog hair everywhere, cigarette ashes on the floor, and smelled of smoke. The car was clearly not cleaned at all. Due to already waiting for 2hrs, I did not want to deal with the line/counter at that time. So I washed and vacuumed the vehicle myself and paid out of pocket as I felt this was the best option. Highly disappointed and will NOT be renting with Avis again unless something is done to recoup my losses and insure a better experience will be had moving forward. Not to mention I was charged over $800 total for a four day rental on an intermediate sized vehicle.

Returning my car rental 2 1// hours early. Belittled and berated for 15 solid minutes by the agent in the car return area. “Ma’am you need to download the app.” “I see you have a smart watch…..it’s 2022….” “Ma’am, Ma’am” I don’t want to download the app. I would not have rented this vehicle if that stipulation would have been presented. I work for the airlines, travel quite frequently. I have never, ever been treated in this manner. I’m just stunned and dumbfounded. IND Avis.

We used our AARP card to make the reservation and received an email that we should get off at the Preferred Avis stop. Check in was quick and easy and we were out of there in no time. The car was very nice and clean. My only complaint was that we waited about ten minutes for the shuttle bus on the way back to the airport after dropping off the car but luckily we had plenty of time to catch our flight

The people at the desk were extremely kind and helpful. they explained everything thoroughly to me. I wish I had caught their names because they were great employees. It was a woman with long hair and a man who was quite tall (I picked up 3/23). It started pouring buckets outside right before I left and the man went and got the car for me and encouraged me to wait to leave until it was a bit safer. They truly cared about my safety and wanted to make sure I was comfortable before I left. I will be returning to Avis in the future because of the kind staff. Overall easy check in process, no wait and easy return process. Very seamless.

The people at the front desk are great (very kinda and helpful) BUT every other aspect of my rental process with avis (in general and at this location) has been a giant headache. The airport shuttle took 30 min to pick us up. Me and another lady tried calling to location to see if there was a bus coming to pick us up- nobody picked up even after multiple calls. We were waiting in 15°F weather, watching the other rental buses come by multiple times while Avis was so slow. My main complaint with Avis is my drop off experience. I dropped off my car, had a representative scan the car and process my return only to be charged over $1k on my card a few days later with an email claiming I never returned the car. I called loss prevention to resolve the issue 10 times through the day (all during business hours) to have the line drop on me and have nobody call back when I put my number on the queue. I also called this location and again, nobody picked up (no matter which extension I tried calling, and again this was during business hours). I finally got in contact with their national customer service, only to be told I’d have to wait 5 days to hear back about the case and that they didn’t see the $1k charge on their end (when I can see it in my bank statement for the card I used on file). Essentially being told “just wait” until the proper person calls me back since they don’t seem to pick up when I call. Sure the car worked fine and they have decent prices, but there are other rental companies at the Detroit Metro Airport with similar price points and better customer service so I’d go there instead. This is currently a big headache on my end and it’s very upsetting that Avis has no urgency with resolving this case, and has no problem overcharging my card $1,200 over the original rental agreement with no explanation.

We made a reservation online months in advance. I received a text from Avis, encouraging me to use the app to select a car once we landed in Detroit. I downloaded the app, logged in, and did so. We proceeded to the lot and was met with a long, slow moving line at the desk. When it was our turn, we were told there was a problem with the car we selected and we would be given a different car. The rep seemed to be having a lot of problems doing this as she kept asking for help from another rep. It took about 30-35 minutes for her to straighten out our reservation and give us a different car. My family proceeded to the parking lot and found the space we were assigned, but there was no car there. We were assigned a blue Volkswagen, and I noticed there was another blue Volkswagen two spaces away, so I assumed it was our car. We started loading it up and then I noticed it was not the correct license plate number. So we spoke briefly to an attendant we found in the lot and he directed us back to the desk. Back to the desk, i waited for a different rep to speak to as the original was busy helping other customers in a (much longer) line. After waiting several more minutes, the new rep was able to straighten out our reservation rather quickly and give us another car. My family went back to the lot and found our car. To my dismay, the car had quite a bit of damage on the exterior (including what appeared to be a bullet hole on the front fender), but seemed to be functional otherwise. I took several minutes to fill out the damage report and we proceeded on our way almost an hour after we got to the rental lot. I was very disappointed with my experience with Avis at the Detroit Airport to the extent that I will be looking into other rental car companies for my future travel plans.
