We had superb service all around: a great mid-sized car (Subaru Forester) with a booster seat for no extra charge; helpful, accommodating employees who respected our choices at pick up and drop off; and successful travel in between. We'll definitely consider MSP's Payless for our rental needs in the future.

Our flight to Chicago was delayed and we had to spend the night there. So we arrived almost a day later in Minneapolis to pick up our car that we had paid in advance. Payless made us pay around USD 1'300.- more because of this delay. That is an insane policy that punishes families for a delayed flight which is very common in Chicago! Never again „Payless" - which should be named „Paymore"! In addition they charged us USD 254.15 (!) for half a tank of gas worth USD 40.-!

Horrible experience. (And I could tell from what was happening around me that I was not the only one.) No car available. Finally found one from the 'repair lot'. Promised a price adjustment "when you come back". When I returned the car there was no one to do the price adjustment and the receiving attendant said "your receipt is in your email". It isn't. Please note: Even though all the employees here weren't excellent, they are not the issue. Almost everyone I dealt with was nice (maybe one was a little indifferent, but he wasn't 'not nice'). This is a broken company system. They'll be out of business soon.

Service and car were fine. However, I did not have time to refill my tank (it was exactly half full) and my flight left at 7:00 am the next morning. They charged me a $179 penalty. That’s right…$179 for a half tank of gas. Excessive. Price gouging, in my opinion. I know the rules and deserve a penalty…but not that much! Pardon the bad pun, but I will steer clear of this company and its sister companies in the future.

tl;dr: Save the hassle, spend another 5 bucks and go with a real rental company. The WORST customer service I've ever experienced. Our rental car was stolen, and I called the customer service number. Over the next 3+ hours, I was left on hold, re-routed to dead or unstaffed numbers (and subsequently disconnected) and unable to find anyone to give any thing like a helpful answer (one guy actually checked google for the answer to my question), all while trying to get my family to safe place. After being disconnected for the 7th time, I decided to take an uber to the airport to speak to an actual physical person. The next day, after the rental had been recovered, I called customer service again: this time, no one was staffed at all. Every option lead to an automated message, "please call back during business hours--goodbye," even the emergency options. This was a Monday at 1-2pm. I'd give 0 stars, but google won't let me. That's OK--the 1 star can be for the kid at the counter who was at least a very nice lad. He deserves better than Payless, AND SO DO YOU!

Worst experience from Car Rental Co. since 1997. Waited too long, sent to a space that didn't exist, N22. Car wasn't there in fact no car could have been since that number didn't exist. Trying to find the car meant I had to go back and wait in line again to be given a wreck vehicle. Spent more time reviewing wrecked vehicle to assure I wasn't billed for the damage. No one there to check in vehicle so I expect fraudulent charges to be on my Credit Card to be fought over. NEVER RENT FROM PAYLESS or you will get screwed.

Arrive in MSP, only one line for Budget, Avis, and Payless. Two dozen people in line with more coming. The woman at the Payless counter walks off after helping one person who didn't even wait in the line. You get what you pay for is accurate. Extremely poor customer service.

Car was fine, no issues there but like others have said they charged me the 9.99 fee for gas despite topping off before i dropped off. They also added an additional surcharge. Do not rent from this company. They will try and stick you w additional BS fees!

I wasn’t told that the car they gave me was an upgrade. I already prepaid but the double charged me. Also, they never sent me any receipt. I have to call for them to explain the charges . Worst car rental experience for me

I rented a car the end of December and notified the beginning of February that I supposedly caused damage to the vehicle I rented. I didn’t do anything to cause damage to the vehicle. So I tried calling the location but could never get through, I kept getting the universal customer service. No one could tell me anything about the damage I caused. The day after I called they took money from my account for damages that I don’t know what they are. I was promised a report in five days that I never received. When I reach out to customer service I get the same response that they are sending me the info. It’s been over a month and still nothing but they got my money.
