I really, truly cannot say enough good things about this place. The most caring staff who went above and beyond to try and help my little girl. Dr. Shumone in internal medicine performed a very difficult procedure and took great care of my little yorkie. I was kept informed every step of the way and would trust this staff 100% with any of my pets.

The staff and hospital are amazing! Very friendly and clean. If you didn’t know, you would think it was a hospital for humans. My daughters fur baby had to have emergency back surgery. The nurses came right out and took her back to evaluate, the neurologist did an exam and CT scan, confirming she needed surgery. She was there for three days. My Granfurbaby was carried in and walked out on her own! So thankful! It’s been 2 weeks since surgery and Luna is already wanting to play.

We had a puppy with an irregular heart beat and heavy, congested breathing. A vet recommended NC State and we called them in the hopes they could get examine our pup. They claimed to be too busy, completely full, and in the middle of a shift change making it impossible for them to see our puppy. It felt like they were throwing every excuse at us not to give her care. If you have an emergency, I would not recommend this place. They will do anything not to see your dog.

The entire staff needs to get it together. From the beginning when Karli answers the phone with her attitude, to the doctors who don’t even know what medication your pet is on, then to the end of the appointment and the bill comes out way more than it should be. Took over a month to get it fixed!!

Words can't express how much I appreciate everyone in the radiation oncology unit. They have a great reputation across the country as one of the very best and I completely understand why. I would highly recommend NCSU to anyone who has a pet dealing with cancer.

So our 4 month old English bulldog was in for a serious heart condition and upon referral to NC State from out local vet office we began trips and treatment with NC state ER for his heart valve restriction. They quickly realized how serious the condition his heart was in and informed us that the only chance at life for him was heart surgery. They set a date for surgery over a month out 3 days before his scheduled surgery his abdomen was so swollen from fluid in his stomach and lungs that they had us bring him in early to drain the fluid so he could breathe and have a chance to make it to the surgery date. He did make it to surgery and we meet several times with discussions about the surgery and his chances with and without the surgery. The surgery initially was successful and they requested him to return for a follow up and changed his medications due to his heart conditioning worsening. Tonight his abdomen is severely swollen even with the change in his prescriptions and we have called multiple times and when speaking to the receptionists at NC State (who act like you are a burden for asking them to answer the phone and treat you like a 3rd rate citizen and talked down to my wife trying to get her off the phone) they informed us they would not see him or provide any assistance for him at this time. This after spending over $8,000 this week alone with NC State. The cardiology department has been great with they care and attention, however the ER DEPARTMENT on the other hand if I could give them minus 5 stars for this review I would. I will be seeking legal recourse for their lack of care and compassion after they received their $$ they could not seem to care less if our beloved puppy lived or dies. This is absolutely ridiculous and insulting. When it comes to life or death you don’t turn the other way and say oh well. You need to try to triage and make an attempt in an emergency situation when you are a medical professional. I would love someone from bc state to contact me in regards to this situation.

My Baby Pup, Bear was a patient at NC State ICU towards the end of May. Although My Baby did not make it because he had several things wrong with him all at once, that unfortunately I didn’t know and My Baby never showed any signs that he was sick. I am grateful for the extensive care that the ICU provided to him. They were amazing and worked around the clock with him, even did blood transfusions which I was hopeful would work however, his blood pressure would not increase. They were so wonderful all the doctors were great and I can’t thank you all enough for everything you did to help poor baby Bear. I appreciate all your efforts and if I ever need you in the future I will definitely contact this hospital. Thank you again., Brenda and John LaMontagne.

First off we had been trying to get our lab seen for over a month for an eye injury but was told it wasn't urgent. When we arrived the lady at the front desk was very unwelcoming as if she cared less we were there. Once seen by Dr. Smith ( only know her name because of the prescription as she never introduced herself) she was more concerned with us wearing a mask than us being able to understand what she was saying but she did manage to let us know that due to the extensive time of inflammation in the eye my lab would be permanently blind like it was our fault, then tried to cover her tracks by saying we don't know if sooner treatment would have changed the outcome. On a side note the student Abby Cox was awesome and showed so much care, concern and interest. Too bad the Dr. made it such a bad experience I am already not looking forward to the follow up in 2 months.

Once your pet actually receives care, it is very good. Actually getting someone to help you is another story. Our dog needed spinal surgery and was losing use of his back legs. They sent him home from the ER multiple times before finally listening to our pleading to do something to help him. They finally relented and performed the surgery and he has made a full recovery (5 stars for that). However, the customer service was terrible. The "doctors" talk down to you and make you feel like you are bothering them by asking questions about your pet's condition, billing screwed up our invoice multiple times, and people answering the phones seemed annoyed to try to help you. If your pet is in their care, don't even bother trying to call for an update on their condition. You will get a generic response and be told you can't speak with anyone that is actually helping with your pet.

Our dog was seen through the internal medicine department. Everything from scheduling, to price, to what to expect at the visit was so well laid out and organized. There were no surprises since everything was so well explained before we even set foot in the door! Dr. Rank was the vet that worked with our dog and she explained everything in depth and was so kind and patient. Our dog had to go back for a biopsy procedure and Dr. Rank was her vet again and took such good care of her and called and kept us informed both before and after the procedure and the next day. I highly, highly recommend NC State Vet! They truly care about the animals in their care and everyone I encountered was so kind, professional, and helpful!
