Coming to photograph the District of Columbia, I could't help myself but stop by this quaint mom and pop camera store. As a professional photographer for National Geographic, I have been to hundreds of camera stores. McClanahan Camera exceeded my expectations in all regards. They had a great selection of both products and services, and the staff was extra friendly. When I go to photograph the elusive White Snow Leopard in the Himalayas, I will make sure I will visit McClanahan camera before.

A true camera shop in all aspects of photography. From a professional to a sometimes photographer, this is one of my favorite places to go. They always have or find the most correct answers for my many inquiries. Their printing department is always high quality. Knowledgeable and courteous staff. Great classes also.

McClanahan Camera has some ideal prices and so many camera accessories. Very attentive. Very friendly...ready to help, and very thorough with help. I had some photos developed there, as well, and they were I was able to wait for them! The person operating the developer came out and offered to adjust the lighting on the photos. I highly recommend this place for all professional photo development needs. They also have little random accessories at a really reasonable rate.

Getting back into photography & narrowing my camera choices, stopped in to speak with someone & look at the cameras I wanted. Cindy was a great help, as was all the staff. Knowledgeable & took the time answering all my questions. Was able to get everything I needed to get set up. Ended up buying the Nikon Coolpix P1000 & very happy with my choice. Nice to know they do reprints & enlargements on site. Highly recommend McClanahan Camera for your camera, picture needs. Thanks!

I have been visiting this business for over 30 years now and the lovely owners and support staff never fail to impress me with their depth of knowledge, and give me all the time I need to help achieve my goals; I have never once felt rushed to make a decision. Cindy in particular is extraordinarily patient and knowledgeable; she has made it her business to "stay up" on all the latest cameras etc available. I do not think I have ever asked her a question she has not had an immediate answer for; she is a like a walking encyclopedia! In addition to a tremendous range of Nikon and Canon cameras and accessories, their ability to make terrific prints and enlargements, especially ones that need a lot of tuning up from old/vintage pictures, is truly outstanding. I really like to visit this place and hang out playing with the latest cameras and gadgets on offer from the camera manufacturers. My personal toy shop!

Great camera shop, knowledgeable friendly service, excellent prices. I walked through the door with more money than sense and walked out with exactly what I needed for much less than I had anticipated spending. I was given lens money as a gift. My technical knowledge of photography is limited and at other stores I have been assisted by salespeople that rambled on in technical terms that were way over my head. At MC the staff spoke to me on a level I could understand, they asked me questions in layman's terms to help them clarify my needs and steered me towards the product I could afford. They seemed to have unlimited time and patience for explaining my choices, making sure I was comfortable with my purchases they even changed out my camera strap while we chatted. Not once did I feel like I was being spoken down to or pressured. They walked me through using the lens with my camera and taught me some basic settings. Within 6 hours of purchasing my Tamron high speed lens I was shooting outside in near dark and later inside at a basketball game with great results. I walked out the door feeling like I had just done business with a friend and I was relaxed and comfortable that I would have no buyers remorse. I plan on going back to take classes as I feel like they will be taught on a level I will understand and I won't be condescended to. I drove over 40 miles to get to them on a friends recommendation and I would gladly drive further to know that the people there have my best interest and a long term business relationship as their goals. This is a country shop with down to earth staff that have earned my trust.
