Highly recommend finding a different dealership if you have a Subaru and need service from a dealership. It’s no secret that dealerships aren’t the most transparent, honest workplaces around, but this place just doesn’t have the competence in customer service to make up for it. The modern electrical systems in Subaru cars are somewhat advanced and you could imagine the issues that may arise. But the employees trained to diagnose and repair them at this location aren’t exactly equipped to efficiently handle these issues. Mix that with minimally experienced workers incentivized to avoid use of warranty coverage and you get multiple unnecessarily inconvenient trips to the Subaru dealership for a single issue. Hopefully other Subaru locations operate better than this one. I’m not a big fan of writing reviews. But after experiencing this place I feel it somewhat of a civic duty to try to prevent someone from going through the same prolonged headache that I’m guessing is common here. Avoid Santa Monica Subaru if you can, trust me. Update: left a message with the service mgr a week ago regarding electrical issue still not fully remedied and still no call back. Yet my review from a week ago was replied to. Maybe the emphasis on service should shift from public relations to repair work, just a thought.

This is an amended review that has been reduced to 1 star due to poor customer service tied to misrepresentations made by their service department. After a negative experience with the service department tied to another vehicle I own ... I was concerned that Subaru of Santa Monica was not completing certain services during regularly scheduled maintenance visits. Specifically, I was concerned that they were cutting corners where they could ... with matters that perhaps only a professional mechanic would notice. Not changing air filters, using lower grade oil, or not rotating tires, etc. So, when I recently brought my Crosstrek in for its first scheduled maintenance, I took a few precautions to insure the work was being done. For example, my car was due for a tire rotation in addition to other services to be completed. I made specific marks on my rear wheel with the thought that when I picked up my car I'd be able to determine that it had been properly rotated. Sure enough, despite Subaru advising me both verbally and in writing that a tire rotation took place, the wheels were in the exact same position as drop off. If this portion of my maintenance was not completed, what else are they being dishonest about? Did they really change the oil? Did they use the brand they claim they did? What other corners were cut? I wasted an hour of my time having them "service" my vehicle. I've been mislead by their service department and feel I should be compensated for the waste of time and for having to go to another dealer to have the work properly completed. AVOID this dealership.

I came in for a test drive and the front desk employees were super friendly and helpful. They offered coffee, showed me the restrooms and told me to wait as I waited for the person who would take me on a test drive. I was hoping to test drive the Forester Premium, but they only had the Forester Touring. I tried it out any way, but the guy who showed up was pretty apathetic and incredibly unhelpful when I asked questions. Ex: I asked if he knew if there were any new cars arriving and he said he ‘would’ have to check, but never did. It almost felt like he didn’t care about making a sale? I also asked about features, distinctions between each type and you know when you get the sense that someone just doesn’t want to talk? All to say, it was a very awkward test run. Perhaps he was having a bad day. I called Subaru Glendale instead (even though they are much farther away) and they were quick to respond and help. Just placed an order!

I was in the market for a new Subaru, and went into the dealer in Santa Monica several times. Test drove a vehicle. I had a salesman names Genaro. He was the reason I purchased the car. His knowledge was impressive and patient. I had him deliver the car to my residence, and he spent 1 1/2 hours going over the car details. I would highly recommend him to anyone getting ready to buy a car. Jim Hoffman

Unfortunately I am not the unique to share about the dealership still dishonest. Making long story short, one inspection became 2 charge twice for the same problem, after left my car for two days so they could try to find the problem and drive the car for a long distance “they said 30miles” to figure out the problem. Well, I got it the car with interior damages and missing items inside of the car, besides of being overcharged for a service that even happened as we discussed in the begin. They state on the receipt about drive the car for just 3 miles and didn’t find any problem (of course they didn’t find the problem, they didn’t inspect the car as promised) Anyway, the new crew are not the same as before. Sadly because all the other negative reviews from the last year start to make totally sense.

With Subaru one better stick to their dealership services. It pays off on the long run. This particular location has awesome staff. Steven from service department gives excellent tips. I’m a devoted customer and will probably be driving electric or hybrid Subaru after my legacy’s time is up: )

This was the best experience I’ve had at a car place. I just moved to California & my Subaru was having some issues so I took it in to get checked out- Steve was SO HELPFUL! I was worried it was going to cost me an arm & a leg but he was able to work with me & take care of things. Steve was very helpful in explaining what exactly was wrong & how they fixed it. As a woman I feel like I often get taken advantage of at car places but he was so kind & helpful. Would highly recommend!

I've emailed this dealership on two occasions asking for help/advice about an issue I have been having with my WRX only to have sales people contact me about buying a new vehicle. The first time, I thought it was an error on my part - maybe I had contacted "sales" instead of "service", so the second time I made sure that I was contacting the right person, but still I received a call and an email about buying a new Subaru. I emailed the person back, to actually read my inquiry and to have the service department contact me, and I heard nothing back from either the sales rep or service. After being frustrated with this, I emailed Subaru of America to help with the issue to which they were incredibly helpful, but said that I needed to have it looked at by a dealership to diagnose the issue. I had called the dealership last week to discuss, and had spoken to a customer service person about scheduling an appointment, which they said would cost $220 for a diagnostic fee. Though I understand this is a standard fee, I questioned whether I could get it waived, to which the person responded by getting audibly irritated as I asked more questions and abruptly forwarded my call to a service advisor, who did not pick up and the call ended. I called at least a couple more times due to having the call drop or being forwarded to someone who didn't answer (which is frustrating but I understand) and each time a new person answered and had to explain the entire situation again. The last time I called, I had someone personally check if a service advisor could chat with me about my issue and came back to tell me that they are unavailable at the moment. She said she would pass on the message to an advisor and have them return my call later. It's been a whole week now and I have not heard anything back from anyone. This dealership has massive communication issues, and also clearly does not care about how well their customers are taken care of. Simply forwarding the call over to someone and passing off the issue is not sufficient, and not calling back This is an issue that I was hoping could get resolved in a few days but now has been over two weeks because of the dealership's horrible communication.

Update: I revoke my 5 star review. I have a very new Subaru 2020 outback that completely stopped at a very busy intersection in the middle of Santa Monica. After trying to deal with the Subaru tow service, I had to have the police utilize their towing service-- thus I had to pay for the towing out of pocket. I was promised that this expense would be reimbursed (take in mind this car has 20k miles and was purchased BRAND NEW aka fully under warranty). It has been a MONTH later-- still no reimbursement. I have followed up 4 times via text, called and left a voicemail for the service manager last Friday... STILL no response or follow up. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever received from a car dealership and seriously makes me question having a Subaru if this is the brand and company values of not supporting and responding to its clients claims. Definitely DO NOT recommend this dealership and will never purchase a Subaru car again. Not worth the hassle. I have tried calling and always get directed to the service manager, where he does not answer and I have left multiple voicemails.

It took me a while to see what car to buy, but Subaru Crosstrek won out for a variety of reasons including Subaru Santa Monica. I found the people really sweet and forthcoming, and the experience was a good one, especially because of the manager who bent over backwards to help me and his salespeople. The service has been easy and thorough and I made a good choice of car!
