You shouldnt charge for anything if you are a publicly funded university, which you are. Also, you would think the people inclined to this type of work would be the greatest lovers and caretakers of animals, instead of the opposite. They push euthanasia.

IF YOU VALUE YOUR PETS LIFE, AVOID THESE NON CARING PEOPLE, UF TEACHES WHAT THEY BELIEVE, "THESE ARE JUST DISPOSABLE CATS AND DOGS!"! This facility is a Euthanasia Clinic, I liken it to an Abortion On Demand Clinic. They either prescribe medication or prescribe euthanization. Find a Reputable Veterinarian, these people are not!

We brought our Doberman who has skin issues and been throwing up. My husband drove 3.5 hrs ONE WAY to have them see our dog, since our vet is at her wits end trying to figure this out. There were ZERO other patients and the vet on call - checked his heart and breathing and said it was not an emergency and sent them home. I am livid and would NEVER recommend that vet to a dead animal. NEVER GO HERE.

Dr. Fraess in the Zoo Med department is absolutely amazing! He cares so much for animals, that he sacrifices sleep, and everything else to save as many as he can. The staff was great about answering questions every time I called. It was worth the two and a half hour drive.

My 18 year old chihuahua was hit a week ago at our home still alive but in serious condition . So at 11:30 pm as I headed out to the emergency veterinary hospital knowing he probably would not make it through the night, as I arrived the tech took Charlie back as I waited out in the lobby, she came out and said he was severely hurt and they could try and save him . In my heart of hearts I knew he would not make it even with everything being as he had head trauma. I had to make the decision to let him go as peacefully as he has been through so much that evening. Everyone there was so sad as much as I was and I know it’s their job but I felt at ease knowing my Charlie was in good hands. I got to say goodbye and hold him as he went over that rainbow bridge. My sincere thank you to all who made his last night with us less painful

Dr. Gordon, My Lucy has a mass on her spleen. My vet called ahead and told them what Lucy needed to diagnose a possible aggressive cancer. They told her to send me Friday. I drove from Jacksonville. When we arrived, they took Lucy to the back. When the Dr. Called me, I was informed they weren't going to perform the ultrasound because they didn't feel it was enough of an emergency. I went there because of confirmation the test would be performed and we would have an answer. Thenthey charged me over $180. to tell me what I already knew. I have read about cancer of the spleen, if she does have it, we are wasting precious time. While I was complaining, I was told there was in fact an internist on call and she was there. So angry!!! You and your team gave me another week with my son JoJo, he had aggressive cancer and had a week to life. You caught it early and gave him a blood transfusion that boosted his life meter. We had a full weak of tears and overwhelming love until the end. I am forever grateful to your entire team for the care he received. If anyone who works here reads this, know this: if your ever having a bad day, remember the gift you gave me. I will never forget what you did for me and my son JoJo.

I noticed comments about the time it takes to obtain an appointment at this facility. I would like to point out that this is a hospital for seriously sick animals. Just like it is inappropriate for someone to go to the emergency room to be treated for a cold, it is inappropriate to take your dog. If you've not been to your primary vet before calling/visiting UF Small Animal Hospital then you need to. You shouldn't be talking to going to the hospital unless it's an obvious emergency. If your vet finds something worth being seen quickly over, they will see your animal quickly. To give you an example, people were making fun of my dog for being fat. We walk/run a mile daily and he eats the same amount as my other dog who is 30 lbs lighter. I was giving him a look and as I was feeling around his stomach I noticed a large mass that wasn't squishy like fat would be. I took him to my vet where they found a giant tumor. I was sent to the surgeon immediately as Brown Dog was at at risk of rupturing his tumor. The internal bleeding would have killed my dog if it burst. Due to this, I was at UF small animal hospital within 24 hours and Brown Dog was under the knife within 48 hours. Some people don't like the large team your animal gets but it really put me at ease leaving him overnight after the surgery. I knew he would likely get more attention there than he would at home and he gets plenty at home. It will be 3 years ago in April and Brown Dog turns 14 not very long after. I tell everyone who mentions needing a veterinary hospital, for surgery or cancer treatment or whatever serious ailment they're dealing with, about UF small animal hospital. That being said, see your regular vet first and go from there.

My 7 week old Siberian Husky had her "third" eye lacerated by my cat (it was a very unfortunate accident). We had planned a trip down to Ocala when this happened minutes before we are set to leave, it didn't look so bad but quickly got worse the next day. Being a late Saturday night, most vets were closed. I decided to call the UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services. I explained what happened and she informed me, to save money and time, it would be better to take her straight to the UF Small Animal Hospital to see an Ophthalmologist. Of course at this point I knew it was serious and was very worried for my new fur baby. I called the emergency line at UF Animal Hospital the next morning and they told me to come right in. She had her eye examined and figured the best course if action was surgery. I was very worried as she is only a 7 week old puppy but they made me feel comfortable and at ease about the procedure. I dropped her off Monday morning for the surgery. They called me a before and after the surgery with updates, which definitely helped with the anxiety. They definitely care a great deal about you and your animal. All in all, the surgery was a wonderful success. They were able to suture her third eye lid back together, which had to be a very delicate procedure. I can't even begin to express how impressed I am with this Animal Hospital, the friendly staff and doctors and the amazing surgeon's! They went above and beyond for our little Athena. She's is great spirits and recovering like a champ! I recommend this Veterinary Hopsital to anyone who has a animal emergency. Thank you so much for taking care of Athena!

Excellent experience. My beagle overdosed on a medication, and the staff here was super helpful and encouraging. They took great care of her, and the total cost of the treatment was less than half of the "low number" quote they have me beforehand! I was very impressed and would recommend them to anyone.
