They did good work. Small complaint was that the over the phone price changed when we got to the register. It was easily resolved and we are return customers.

This place services are terrible , do not waste your time or money . They washed my hair at 8:30am and I’m sitting in the chair until 10:30 and now my hair is dry now and no one still began to start on my hair . I paid for the wash and proceeded to leave fast out of this business . DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Service: Hairstyling

Walk ins always welcome. You can set an appointment, but I never do. I am always out in like an hour in a half which I like. I only get a wash and style with a deep conditioner and the price ranges between $45-$65. Not bad prices, but it does fluctuates a lot for some reason I'm not sure. I only go to certain hairstylist, but they are all pretty good.

When I first started going there a few years ago it was $30. Then it went to $40 the next couple weeks. He didn’t remember me & thought he could charge me more even though it was suppose to be $30. So I was told I have natural hair so it’s $40. I had the same damn hair two weeks prior. 90-95% of the women going there have natural hair REALLY!! Guess that’s another way to tax blacks whom choose to go natural. Went again & now it’s $50. EVERYTIME!!! I go there the price is always $10 more & only a few weeks have passed. Yet you still charge the $40 to several other customers each time I’ve been their. They charge whomever they want whatever they want regardless of the price list. SO DISHONEST AND EXTREMELY UNFAIR!!! My hair looks really nice. The two guys that have done my hair Hany & Joseph are nice. DONT CHARGE PEOPLE BY APPEARANCES!!! A price list is there for a reason I guess that why it says up to so they can charge whatever 😡😡😡 Service: Hairstyling

I went there on November 1st 2021 and Steven straighten my hair. He did a fantastic job!! It’s going on two weeks and my hair still straight and shiny with no shedding… I recommend this place and Steven Service: Hairstyling

I love the way Ayman does my hair. He knows what he’s doing! The guy who did my hair last does not know what he’s doing, nor does he even speak English. I don’t know if his name was Sam, but I know I was getting my hair serviced in Sam’s chair. My hair is completely burnt out (damaged due to excessive heat). I’m scared that it’ll just start shedding. (that’s how fragile it is after the blow dry and flat iron) He even stated he “doesn’t know how to do blacks girls’ hair”…that is wrong in so many ways. My hair wreaks of a completely scorched substance. A complete waste of money!! He put edge control on the front of my hair and tried to swoop it with a comb (I could not believe it. It’s usually wash, blow dry, flat iron, a little argon oil for shine…nothing extra!!!). I was completely swindled! Will not be returning or recommending. My hair is completely damaged. Service: Hairstyling

Came here to get my hair straightened only because I had a business meeting that same morning and I was happy that I was sitting in the seat within about a few minutes of getting there (7:30am). The problem was that the stylist didn’t put any heat protection on my hair! I was very disappointed!! I now have to do damage control because of this. I have beautiful hair and because it’s frizzy I need extra heat but I also NEED heat protection so it won’t damage. Granted I was in and out of the salon within half hour which was great. I would suggest if you come here bring your own protection products. Besides that my hair looked good, just don’t touch it because it was crinkly. I paid $40 just for a blow dry, no wash, cut or protection. I say it’s not professional Because a professional would use heat protection Service: Hairstyling

I visited Mena's Hair Salon with a request for hair color, shampoo and style. I presented a photo with the exact color I desired and was assured that this could be accomplished. During the treatment I noticed that my hair began to turn a bright blonde and out of concern. I was told that once the dye was rinsed, the hair color would be brown color I desired. To my dismay, the final color was in fact blonde and not the brown hue I expected. I was reassured that a second attempt would result in the correct color but unfortunately, the revision resulted in bright orange roots and blotchy wine ends. The stylist requested to make a third attempt at correcting the color but knowing the potential damage that this could cause, I declined. I requested to speak to the manager regarding this and offered to pay only for a portion of the services, but not the color. This set the salon in an uproar, leading to four angry men shouting at me to pay immediately. In their attempt to pacify me, they offered to have me return another day for color correction, but only if I paid the balance immediately. Since I agreed to pay the additional money only after the correct service was accomplished, the harassment intensified. To diffuse the situation, I offered to pay an additional $10 in good faith, towards the return visit however, this lead to further escalation of the persecution. The intense verbal shouting further intensified after I requested to see the license of the stylist. Since I became incredibly threatened and began to fear for my own personal safety I sat $50 cash on the counter and walked out. Approximately 5-10 minutes later, while driving down Lincolnway Highway, I was pulled over by two police officers in separate squad cars. They informed me that a complaint had been made by the staff at Mena's Hair Salon regarding refusal to pay. After explaining the course of events, the police insisted that I return while they escort me back to the Salon. After reluctantly agreeing to return to make the payment I was surprised to see yet another squad car awaiting my return at the salon. In total humiliation I paid the balance and went on my way. Needless to say, I am completely mortified by the treatment I received on Saturday by the staff at Mena's Hair Salon. As a professional and a customer who has supported this business for numerous years, I am appalled at their lack of professionalism and attempt to have me arrested. Not only could their poor lack of judgement result in a criminal record that could have ruined my reputation, this unnecessary act could have destroyed my entire medical career and future. It is clear, that despite their breach of contract to provide a service with reasonable care and skill, their only goals were financial gain and power. In review of the myriad of complaints about this company on various social media outlets, I have noticed a common theme: unprofessional service, unlicensed workers, unsanitary work conditions, and poor hair outcome. Regardless of the complaints, no visible changes have seemed to be made. In review of this, as well as based on my own personal experience there, I am very concerned that many of the FDA rules and regulations regarding health and safety are not being followed. I am certain that this salon (and likely all eight locations) are in violation of many safety & sanitation guidelines to ensure that their clients are safe. Also, in regards to licensure, there are a myriad of employees who provide hair services without any visible credentials. This business is located in Matteson, a predominately black community. which I believe, has lead to a significant disparity in the quality of customer service that customers receive at Mena's. It is time that Mena's assume accountability for their attitude, egregious service, and unacceptable conditions and establish a core level of professionalism that the owner and all staff must deliver.

I loved it! I went for a wash & style. Steven did my hair & he did a great job. My hair is so straight & shiny! I went at 10:00 & was immediately taken to get my hair done. Took less than 2 hours for it to be finished. Would definitely recommend!
