I have been a customer of Independent Financial since before they actually took over and they are very accommodating. I wanted a bank where it felt like someone cared, regardless of how much money you keep in your account. I am a happy customer and have no reason to look elsewhere.

My visit was very unpleasant. No one greeted me when I walked in and they refused to call their own customer to verify a check. They also charge non customers to cash checks. I would not recommend opening an account here.

They are racist this place charges 5 a non banker to cash a check which seems to me this bank needed all the nickels and dimes it can get

I originally opened my account with Community Bank which was then bought by Northstar. That transition went great and they honored my debit card and checks which said Community Bank on them. Six months later this bank was sold again to Independent Bank. Independent Bank was able to successfully mail me information about the transition process, which included details like how my current debit card (which says Northstar on it) would no longer be valid but that they would send me a replacement in plenty of time so that i would not be without one as well as that my routing number would also be changing, which means that I will need to order new checks at my own expense. I found out Wednesday night, while checking out at the store, that my debit card had been deactivated even though I have not received a replacement. When I called customer service to find out what was going on, I was told that my new card should have arrived a week and a half ago. She also suggested that maybe when I received the letter with the new card inside that I didn't know what it was, as if I'd never seen a debit card before. When I asked her how this was going to be resolved, I was told that they would have to deactivate the new card and then they would order me a new one, which I would receive in 7-10 business days. I told her that I could not possibly go that long without a debit card. She then told me that I could have a rush put on the new card for $65!!!!! This is completely unacceptable considering that the bank failed to provide me with a replacement card. This fee should have been waived however, it seems that Independent Bank does not care about their customers. I have withdrawn all funds from this bank and opened a new account with another bank, who by the way, only charges $5 to put a rush on a debit card, which I got to customize. Seriously, this bank is terrible and does not value its customers.

If I could give this bank a negative 5 stars I would!!!!!! I originally banked with Community bank for 20 years. Not one problem. Last year they were bought out by “NorthStar bank”. That transition was jacked up. They would come out with new policies every week. I vowed to find a new bank...but never got around to it. About 6 months later they got bought out again....by Independent Bank. I didn’t think it could get any worse. But today it has!!! Try being 1,100 miles from home working on a job all to find out they deactivated all your debit card because they mailed you new ones that you should have activated. Guess what geniuses!!! I haven’t been home in 4 weeks because I’m on the road working!!! So now I am 1,100 miles from home and I can’t have access to any of my money. I’ve been on hold for 20 minutes and they say “sorry, but we are working through it”. “We are working through it?!??” I AM DONE WITH THIS BANK AND I WOULDN’T RECOMMEND IT TO MY ENEMIES!!! RUN!!!!
