Placed an order for pickup at this Tom Thumb location. When a substitution was found for an item out of stock I received a text message with a photo asking me if the substitution was acceptable. Kroger only shows substitutions if you download their app. (Hint to Kroger: forcing customers to download your app is not going to make them more likely to shop with you.) I also received a text notification when my order was ready for pickup. It stated I could pick up the order any time before 8. I got there at 7 and dialed the number per instructions on the pickup lane. No one answered. I called again. No one answered. There was no option to leave a message or be transferred to the customer service desk. I decided to check in via email. A few minutes later I received a call asking if I was in the lot ready for pickup. A young man, I believe his name was Alan, brought my order to me despite not being in the pickup department. He apologized for the delay and explained the employee had left a couple hours before. Perhaps that employee grew ill and had to leave early? Perhaps the template text message reply needs to remove the text about anytime before 8? Either way, Alan is the reason I selected 5 stars. ~B
