Long waiting queue with less staff. I had reserved a sedan, but they didn’t have any and the wait time was going to be over 1.5 hours. So they pushed me to upgrade to SUV with my money (which I had to because I had other reservations ahead) even though they couldn’t fulfil their commitment. All this happened after a long queue at the counter, which delayed my trip start time, but they didn’t change my trip end time to match it. So I got less time for more money on an upgrade that I didn’t require. After purchasing the upgrade, I went down, waited for some 15 minutes, and was pointed to a mid size car instead of SUV. We really had to fight for getting the tier that we were forced to upgrade. They showed in the checkout receipt that I’ll have a full tank of gas, but it was less than 1/8 which I had to call out myself at the exit. Upon return, their signs are not clear as compared to other rental services (look at the hertz sign in the picture), so I went a couple times and missed the sign to drop off and got a few minutes late doing all this and trying to find the place since neither the maps of apple or google show the right entrance for rental car returns, they will always take you to the entrance. They charged me for a fourth day for a few extra minutes I got delayed because of this.

Arrived at Phoenix Airport. Was told that there was not enough cars available. So our reservation didn’t mean a car would be there. Was told we could upgrade for an additional price from a full size to a premium vehicle and have a car immediately. Kathryn told us it was the pandemic, the gas prices and several other reasons but none that made sense to anyone. Said it wasn’t there fault and if cars came in they would give cars out. Here is picture of the half a line behind us.

Thrifty at the Phoenix airport is committing fraud! They lied about the fuel costs in Arizona. Claiming it’s more than 5.60 per gallon to convince me of purchasing the fuel option. I should have known better but I was exhausted from the travel and not being familiar with the area I opted to believe the rep. Only to find gas was less than 4.50 everywhere we went. To add insult to injury, I noticed they charged over $90 for a full tank of gas. To fill up a Ford Escape does not cost $90. In fact, I filled up the tank from empty and it was $44. When I called customer service they told me to contact the local office directly. But you can’t seem to find their direct number anywhere. Customer service provided a number that was supposedly the direct number to the one located in the airport but upon calling, I ended up on the phone with general customer service again. Then I was given another number which turned out to be the Hertz general customer service. Feels like they’re sending me on a wild goose chase. I found another number, but I only get a busy signal. In addition, we were given an “upgrade” to a midsize suv, waited over an hour for a Ford Escape. Paid over $300 above our original reservation. What a joke. Thrifty, Hertz, Dollar, shame on you.

SCAM ALERT: Arrived for my 1pm reservation with Thrifty through Priceline at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport rentals. Mind you I’ve been waiting in line for the past 2 hours and it hasn’t moved. Suspecting they don’t have any cars available. Checked with Priceline and they won’t refund me because it was pre paid all other rental car companies in the same place didn’t have a line…. All in all I prepaid this booking and am out the money with no rental car. Looking at reviews down the list I wish I would’ve checked this prior to booking Thrifty seems to be a common theme of scamming people out of hard earned money and not providing a service to the purchaser. If there is one thing you can do is at least provide a refund to people who are unable to wait an obnoxious amount of time and don’t retrieve their car. This has nothing to do with personal and management from Thrifty on site here in Phoenix clearly is an over booking and a true modern day scam. Disgusting is an understatement they can get away with this.

Thrifty was closed upstairs so we finally went downstairs to the garage where Thrifty appeared to be closed but we stood in line because other people said they had a reservation with Thrifty. Then we found out we needed to go back upstairs to “Dollar” for our “Thrifty” rental. NO signage to tell customers what to do! No customer service to assist. Took an hour to get my reservation secure on my prepaid rental. Then back downstairs to stand in a 2hr line on hard concrete, no chairs, outside in a hot garage. Finally got our car, lots of scratches & small damages with no one to confirm the damage was already on the car so I took pictures. I better get my $200 deposit back. Worst car rental experience ever. Would not recommend.

Scheduled a pickup for 10am. Had to wait more than two hours in a long line outside with no chairs. There was warm bottled water available. The rental personnel kept allowing people to pay extra to upgrade and get a shortened wait time. Don’t rent from here unless you have time to spare.

Update #2: Despite standing next to the vehicle as it was being checked in, greeting the employee and wishing him a good day - I was shocked to see I had "accepted" a $25 "windshield repair" fee. The vehicle windshield was not damaged, and the employee said nothing about marking it as damaged. I called - 23 minutes on hold; 3 minutes to determine there was "no documentation in the file" and they would be refunding. Appreciate the refund, but shouldn't have had to address the fraudulent charge in the first place. Update: It got much worse. After receiving my paperwork, I arrived at the pickup station to find at least 100 people waiting in line to get their vehicles. It was something around another 2 hours to get into your car. No mention at all that after waiting an hour to get paperwork, you were now going to wait even longer to get your vehicle. An employee was walking up and down the line (apparently Thrifty had sold more "full-size" vehicles than they had on hand, and she was looking for people who had other vehicle classes. I asked her if this was normal, or if something was different on this day -- she replied it was her first day, so she didn't know; I felt sorry for her. People were trying to be patient and nice, but there was nowhere to sit, no water. I was alone, so I couldn't step out of line; I am disabled and unable to stand for long periods without pain, so I was miserable. Management seemed to be absent, and leaving this fiasco to those poor employees, who were working hard to move things along. I was eventually able to get close enough to the counter where I could speak to a Jennifer, who helped me to get a smaller car when I explained my disability. The other option was to upgrade and pay the fee for that. Given the situation, that seemed incredibly unfair. I recognize these are trying times. But honest communication and provisions - such as water bottles and seating for the handicapped or elderly - would go a long way to helping a difficult situation more doable. Never again. Arrived to find a line of around 60. There were 3 people working. 45 minutes later and we are down to 1 person working. I’m still 11 back. Thrifty, you can’t make this up to me. I won’t be back.

Completely mismanaged logistics. And the staff is RUDE and CONDESCENDING as if we are here for THEM! We had a prepaid reservation and hours later we are still not in a car because they cannot figure out how to clean cars fast enough. There are tons of people working but no one doing their job. It is a total disaster. This is a total outrage and has ruined the start to our vacation. Again - can’t tell you how rude the staff is. I’d rather rent a pogo stick.

Truly awful. A hundred people waiting in the line. Unacceptable business practice of offering a low rate to entice customers and not being able to deliver. How is waiting two hours to get a car rental reasonable?

I waited over an hour in line to get my car at the counter. When I first got in line, there were 6 employees assisting customers. About 20 minutes into my wait, employees started disappearing, would come back for a few minutes, help one customer, and then leave. By the time it was finally my turn to register, there were 2 employees helping. The employee that helped me was great and was the ONLY employee who continuously helped customers rather than taking sporadic breaks. Retrieving my car was easy. I thought the bad service was over, but it only got worse. Towards the end of my vacation the car I rented had a dead battery. We had planned reservations for that day that we missed because our car wouldn’t start. I called and was informed someone would come out to jump the battery but then I would need to drive it back to the airport (an hour away) and exchange it. We waited over 3 hours for AAA to show up and jump the car, the guy also informed us the battery itself was bad. The dead battery wasn’t our fault (no lights were left on) the battery was just gone. We were able to jump start it and get it running. But we had already missed out on almost a full day of our vacation. Since we’d already wasted so much time and our previous experience at the airport car rental office was horrible, we decided to buy a pair of jumper cables and keep them on hand in case we had to jump start the car to drive to the airport on our departure day. Returning the car was easy and seamless but I think it’s safe to say I will not be recommending Thrifty/Dollar car rental to anyone, especially anyone travelling to the Orlando International Airport.
